This is my first EVER “Outfit of the Day” blog post and I am super excited about it! I have been planning on making easy #OOTD posts for months now, but I kept putting it off and putting it off. I wasn’t really thrilled about many of the photos I was taking (before I really learned how to use the natural sunlight to my advantage) and I guess I was just procrastinating on the whole blogging thing. But, here it is: my very first outfit post. The first of MANY!
I actually took these photos months ago (back in the fall) and, even though I know they aren’t the greatest pics, I am still really happy with the way they came out. This was one of my favorite fall outfits: perfect for weather that’s getting just a little bit cooler. I love the whole dress/skirt with boots look, and I have to cover up my tattoos for work so I wore a long black sweater on top.
Lush Flawless Solid Dress in Wine – $44; Francescas.
Zenana Outfitters 3/4 Sleeve Open Cardigan in Black – $12.50; Zenana Outfitters (I got it from TJ Maxx).
Pendant Tassel Necklace from Francesca’s – I can’t find this exact necklace, but there are a bunch of similar ones on Francescas.com (and they are all currently on sale: buy one get one 50%-off).
Tory Burch “Amanda” Leather Hobo Bag – ~$350. My mom bought me this bag, my namesake (!), a few years ago for my birthday. Tory Burch has an updated version of the bag, but it looks like it’s currently out of stock. Either way, you can check it out here or here. It’s a wonderful, super roomy everyday handbag, so hopefully there will be another updated version sometime this year.
Blondo “Valli” Waterproof Booties in Mushroom – $150; Nordstrom.
When I first discovered subscription boxes a few years ago, I instantly became obsessed — I had to have them all. I subscribed to as many as I could and I stayed subscribed to a bunch of them for awhile.
Then, over the last year or so, I decided that I really didn’t need all of these subscriptions anymore; I was receiving a LOT of repeat products, and I just couldn’t justify spending all this money every month for subscription boxes that I really didn’t have much use for. So I suspended or completely cancelled many of my subscriptions, but there were a few that I absolutely loved and needed to keep … Julep Maven was one of the keepers.
Julep Maven was one of the first subscription boxes I ever received, and I’ve been with the service now pretty much since it began. Julep is constantly releasing new nail colors and new beauty products, so I don’t have to worry about always getting duplicate items like I was with a lot of the other beauty boxes.
I absolutely love many of Julep’s beauty products and I’m always super excited to see the new collection revealed on the 20th of every month. I also love the fact that Julep gives you the freedom of being able to skip any month you don’t want. This weighed in heavily when I was deciding which subscription boxes to keep and which ones to get rid of.
Julep Mighty Nail and Cuticle Serum, $28 ($22.40 Maven price)
For the month of March, Julep released a new cuticle oil/serum: Julep Mighty Nail and Cuticle Serum ($28 regularly; $22.40 for Maven subscribers). I have been using regular Argan oil on my cuticles, so I was kind of in the market for a new product. My cuticles really dry out during the wintertime, and I still haven’t totally kicked my cuticle-biting habit, so I really needed a multi-tasking product specifically formulated to whip my cuticles back into shape.
Julep’s new nail and cuticle serum promises to transform dry and damaged cuticles “almost overnight” and deliver “stronger, smoother nails with fewer ridges, less splitting and brittleness in just 2-3 weeks.” I have only used this serum once since I received it last week, but I already notice a difference: my cuticles look and feel a LOT softer and smoother.
I know I’m not the only one to notice such a big difference overnight — many reviewers on Julep.com said pretty much the same thing. I am really looking forward to using this serum more over the next few weeks and hopefully seeing a big difference in the overall appearance of both my cuticles and my nails.
Julep Nail Color in “Lara” (top) and “Jyliana” (bottom)
I had enough points (Jules) saved up to receive a free Maven box this month, so I decided to go with the basic box instead of getting a bunch of add-ons, and I was really happy because I didn’t have to pay a penny. The regular boxes usually include one beauty product and two new nail colors, and then you can add-on as many products as you’d like after that for a cheaper price. If you add-on three or more items, Julep will throw in a free gift (or gifts).
Julep’s Jules rewards program is pretty awesome, and it’s extremely easy to save up points just by taking your Maven box each month. I think I skipped maybe one box over the last 12 months and I’m pretty sure that this is the second free box I received this year. I also made one or two small orders on Julep.com outside of the monthly Maven box, so that helped in accumulating Jules (rewards points), but it’s still very easy to save up points towards a free box even when you’re not placing extra orders.
Julep Nail Color in “Jyliana”, $14 ($11.20 Maven price)
Julep’s March nail collection was themed around “soft, serene shades.” I decided to go with a pretty, glossy teal hue, and a full-coverage, soft lilac shimmer.
Julep Nail Color in Jyliana ($14 regularly; $11.20 for Maven subscribers) is described as a “Smoky Jade Crème.” It is a full-coverage shade that goes on smooth and stays put, formulated with Julep’s 5-Free Oxygen technology. Julep’s nail colors also include strengthening Hexanal and antioxidant green coffee extract for healthier nails.
Julep Nail Color in “Lara” ($14 regularly, $11.20 for Maven subscribers)
Julep Nail Color in Lara ($14 regularly; $11.20 for Maven subscribers) is described as a “shell pink with gold shimmer.” I think this color is a little more on the lilac side than pink, but either way it’s really gorgeous and very unlike any color I already own. This shade looks very light and sheer-like in the bottle, so I was pleasantly surprised to find that it is, in fact, a full-coverage shade. A perfect nail color to call in the beginning of spring!
Julep Maven is a customizable nail and beauty subscription box that starts at $24.99 per month or $19.99 per month with a three-month prepaid subscription. There are options to add-on more products each month for a higher cost. To subscribe click here, or head over to Julep.com for more information.
It has been such a long time since I last posted on this blog and I can’t believe it’s actually been over a year since my last post! I didn’t have a computer for most of the last year, but now that I have a brand-new, beautiful MacBook Pro, I couldn’t wait to start blogging again!
I really wanted to post about my February planner setup a lot sooner — like, actually IN the month of February — but that didn’t exactly go the way I wanted it to, so I’m posting about it now instead … on the very first day of March! I’m going to make a post on my March planner setup in a few days, so I will have back-to-back planner posts. 🙂
I took these photos with my iPhone 6S camera and I think I took them late in the afternoon, almost at nighttime, so the color isn’t really the best. As I get back into blogging and take more photos I will be using my DSLR camera most of the time, but, for now, all I have are these pics. I didn’t want to re-take them because I just wanted to get the blog post up before February was over (and, obviously, that didn’t happen either). But here we go …. !
Since I started my planning obsession and planner decorating a few years ago, I have been getting a brand-new Kikki K planner every December for Christmas. Actually, Kikki K is pretty much the whole reason I happily stumbled upon the world of planning and planner love (addiction).
The planner I got this year was a limited-edition that came in a Christmas gift set. It has beautiful light pink leather with metallic gold polka dots running off the side and down the spine. I love the gold/pink combination so much and as soon as I saw it on Kikki-K.com, I knew this would be my new planner for 2017.
The planner gift set included two rolls of paper tape, a gold pen and these metallic gold alphabet stickers. The stickers went perfectly with my pink-and-gold theme for February and they’re also the perfect size for these monthly pages.
I used gold-ish heart sticky notes and pink page flags which are also from Kikki K, but they were in a (super cute) set I bought over a year ago. This particular style is no longer available but Kikki K does have a bunch of other awesome sticky notes.
I also got the heart and “XO” stickers from Kikki K. They are a part of the Thrive DIY Sticker Book, which is also no longer available (this one I only got a few months ago, around Christmastime). However, there is a Thrive Paper Lover’s Book available and it’s 50%-off right now, which brings the price down to $14.98. This book also has a bunch of stickers in it, plus cute DIY paper projects. Kikki K has other DIY Sticker Books available with different themes/designs as well.
The “nails” sticker and the stickers on the bottom of the page (in the second photo) are from the Ban.do Sticker Book Part Two ($12). I got the diamond magnet bookmark at the top of the page in a set from Michael’s, and you can buy it online for $3.99. The rest of the stickers are also from Michael’s, out of various planner sticker sets (the link for similar stickers is below).
PRODUCTS USED FOR MY FEBRUARY CALENDAR PAGES:
Kikki K Leather Personal Planner. Similar here (~$80).
Spritz (Target) Hearts & arrows washi tape. Similar here ($3).
Originally I was just going to post a few photos from my latest Target trip to Instagram and be done with it, but I decided at the last minute that my latest Target finds deserved a post of their own. I got so many goodies for so CHEAP — cute stuff for my planner, plus a few random extras.
This month’s Ipsy Glam Bag theme was “Beauty Blast,” a “universe of brilliant beauties.” I have to say that even though the makeup bag might be a wee bit tacky, I am loving it anyway. I love the stars and galaxy stuff so I did a little dance as soon as I opened up my Ipsy package to see this bag 😀
Yippeeeee my Pop Sugar Must Have box has arrived! The inspirations for November’s box were friends and family, gratitude, gifting and festivities … so basically a very Thanksgiving-y theme. There were a lot of great items this month, including an absolutely wonderful eyeshadow quad from Tarte (one of my favorites). Read on for more descriptions … !
I seem to be stuck a week behind with these weekly planner posts, so I wanted to make sure it’s clear that this setup was for last week, Week 46 (November 9-15). I’m going to try really super hard to get the post up for this week’s planner setup sometime over the next couple of days so that I’m back on track and no longer lagging seven days behind!
