I was SO excited about this month’s Julep Maven collection and it finally arrived a few days ago! This was the first month that I decided to upgrade and get the whole entire collection (regular monthly price of $19.99 + an extra $55), which included nine beautiful, bright nail colors, Julep’s new pore-minimizing blush and bronzer, PLUS their new blush brush and bronzer blush.

I have loved every makeup brush that Julep has made so far (including my favorite eyeliner brush ever), and these new blush and bronzer brushes are no different — the bronzing brush is especially amazing. This post is a bit photo-heavy so just a warning …

Julep Maven is a monthly nail polish and beauty subscription box ($19.99/month) that has a bunch of different box “styles” you can choose each month, and every one has a different color/makeup combination. Every month, Julep debuts a new collection, which includes brand-new nail polish hues and brand-new Julep beauty products.

Each Maven box usually contains one of the new beauty products featured that month, plus a combination of 2-3 nail colors from that month’s collection (there are also options to just receive the beauty products that month, or just the nail colors). For an additional cost you can upgrade your box to contain more products or, for $55, you can upgrade your Maven subscription that month and receive the whole month’s collection, which is what I did this month.

This month’s Maven box debuted Julep’s “Vivid Collection” — super bright, spring-y nail colors, plus Julep’s brand-new blushes and bronzers in a pore-minimizing formula and two new brushes to apply them with.

From left to right: Julep Nail Color in Flora, Bailey and Maren

I love every single nail color featured this month and I’ve been painting my nails in a new one every day since I received my April Maven box. Pictured above are the “It Girl” colors of the month:

  • Julep Nail Color in Flora (reg. $14 or $11.20 Maven price for 0.27 oz.; julep.com) is described as an “exotic dragonfruit with blue shimmer.”
  • Julep Nail Color in Bailey (reg. $14 or $11.20 Maven price for 0.27 oz.julep.com) is described as a “hyped cobalt sheer.”
  • Julep Nail Color in Maren (reg. $14 or $11.20 Maven price for 0.27 oz.julep.com) is described as an “electric bubblegum sheer with blue sheen.”

Julep Nail Color in Phoebe (left) and Sunny (right)

These two shades were both featured in the “Boho Glam” box for April and they both have a metallic/chrome finish:

  • Julep Nail Color in Phoebe (reg. $14 or $11.20 Maven price for 0.27 oz.julep.com) is described as a “vibrant jungle metallic.” It is very metallic turquoise-y.
  • Julep Nail Color in Sunny (reg. $14 or $11.20 Maven price for 0.27 oz.julep.com) is described as an “overexposed yellow chrome.”

Julep Nail Color in Tatum (left) and Kayla (right)

These next two colors were both part of the “Bombshell” box for April:

  • Julep Nail Color in Tatum (reg. $14 or $11.20 Maven price for 0.27 oz.julep.com) is described as a “neon chartreuse chrome.”
  • Julep Nail Color in Kayla (reg. $14 or $11.20 Maven price for 0.27 oz.julep.com) is described as an “electric iris sheer with violet sheen.” I would also call this a periwinkle-type violet-blue. It was a little difficult to take photos of this particular color — the first set of photos came out with the polish looking very blue, and then I was finally able to capture how it actually looks — which is a blue base mixed with a lighter purple-ish color. I still wasn’t able to capture exactly how this polish looks, but the photo above was the best one I could get.

Julep Nail Color in Mariska (left) and Caitlin (right)

The last two nail colors in the Vivid Collection were the “Classic With A Twist” box colors, which both have a shimmer finish:

  • Julep Nail Color in Mariska (reg. $14 or $11.20 Maven price for 0.27 oz.julep.com) is described as a “juicy tangerine shimmer.”
  • Julep Nail Color in Caitlin (reg. $14 or $11.20 Maven price for 0.27 oz.julep.com) is described as a “shocking hibiscus with gold shimmer.” This was definitely my favorite shade of the month!

Julep Glow Pore-Minimizing Blush (left) and Bronzer (right)

I was most excited about the new blush and bronzer this month because it’s the first time that Julep has ever released these kinds of products. For the most part, I have been extremely impressed with almost all of the Julep beauty products I have used so far (and this is saying something, since they are originally a nail polish/nail care company), so I was really looking forward to these two new products.

I was definitely not disappointed in the shades and formula — both products were extremely natural-looking (in a good way) but I did have a huge problem with the packaging and both the blush and the bronzer have already crumbled on me (mostly just the bronzer, though). This seemed to be a common sentiment among those who reviewed these products online already.

Julep Glow Pore-Minimizing Bronzer in Medium Tan

I’m loving the bronzer color + “pore-minimizing” formula — well, I don’t know if it’s the bronzer or the bronzing brush (below) that I’m applying it with (probably both — the brush is amazing), but it goes on so smoothly, blends well and looks SO natural. This is probably the most natural-looking bronzer I have ever used and I’m loving that.

Julep Glow Pore-Minimizing Bronzer (reg. $28 or $22.40 Maven price for 0.26 oz.; julep.com) comes in two different shades – “Light Golden Bronze” and “Medium Tan” (I received the latter). It seems that both the blush and bronzer are out of stock right now on the Julep website, but this usually happens when a new product is released with a Maven box and those products don’t really debut to the public for another few weeks, at least. I’m kind of hoping that they fix the packaging problem before they officially release both products.

Julep Glow Pore-Minimizing Bronzer in Medium Tan

This bronzer contains a “ground-breaking formula” that “diffuses the appearance of pores and imperfections,” and diamond powder to give cheeks a “luminous shimmer.” It is also formulated with vitamin B6 for a “truly healthy glow.”

It’s kind of a shame that this product has all this awesome stuff in it and the shade really is very lovely and natural-looking, but the packaging is just so disappointing and the bronzer crumbled into a powder by the second day of me using it.  I was also actually quite surprised that it came in such a cheap-y plastic container. It’s weird — I can’t explain it — but it’s just CHEAP feeling and looking.

Julep Glow Pore-Minimizing Blush in Peach Bellini

The blush was nice too, but I didn’t like the color as much as the bronzer. It blended well but the color didn’t pop on my skin as much as I would have liked (I applied with a very heavy hand in the photo below to be sure the color can actually be seen). I love the way the color looks in the pan so I was a little disappointed that it didn’t come out exactly the same.

Also, I feel the need to put a disclaimer on my photo again because I’m still a little shy about putting photos of myself on the blog — I’m working on the angles, I know they’re not the best, but I really wanted to try a photo out with this blush because I definitely want to break that fear. I think that actually seeing these products on the skin, how they’re supposed to be applied, is so much more helpful than just seeing a swatch on my arm (which I also took a photo of, below). I took this photo with my iPhone because I can’t quite figure out how to take photos of myself with my regular camera just yet. And it was dark out so the lighting was a little off …

Julep Glow Pore-Minimizing Blush in Peach Bellini — applied heavily so it would actually show up!

I’ve been using a little bit of this blush mixed with my Laura Geller blush (review to come soon) and that way I get a near-perfect color. Either way, this blush is still very pretty and great for lighter skin tones and for a more natural flush. This one hasn’t crumbled nearly as much as the bronzer … yet. I’m keeping my fingers crossed.

Julep Glow Pore-Minimizing Blush in Peach Bellini

Julep Glow Pore-Minimizing Blush (reg. $24 or $19.20 Maven price for 0.25 oz.julep.com) also comes in two different shades, “Petal Pink,” and “Peach Bellini.” I received the latter, which is a light peachy-pink with a slight shimmer. It actually comes out a lot less peach and way more pink when applied on my cheeks, which was a little disappointing because I would have preferred a much more peach-looking shade.

This blush is also created with Julep’s Glow “groundbreaking formula” to diffuse the appearance of pores and imperfections. It contains diamond powder to give cheeks a “luminous shimmer,” as well as vitamin B6 “for a truly healthy glow.” Again, like the bronzer, this blush sounded SO promising and it really would have been great if A). the color was a little more vibrant — I felt like this was more of a sheer or semi-sheer blush, which is really not my thing (I want my blush colors to really pop); and B). the packaging wasn’t so cheap/it didn’t start crumbling in the pan already.

All in all I really liked the new bronzer formula, except for the fact that it broke within the first 48 hours of me using it. I really would have liked the blush too if the color was a little more vibrant. I will probably pick up the other blush color (“Petal Pink”) when Julep officially releases the new blush and bronzers.

Julep Blush Brush (top) and Bronzer Brush (bottom)

And now for my favorite products from April’s Julep Maven box … the blush and bronzer brushes! The bronzing brush was especially amazing and, unlike the packaging of the blush/bronzer, the brushes are super luxe looking down to the handle. Both brushes feature “comfortable, weighted handles” and “super-soft synthetic bristles.” The bronzing brush is definitely one of the best brushes of its kind that I have ever used. I also loved the blush brush, but it was slightly larger than what I’m used to, so I just have to get adjusted to it.

Julep Blush Brush (reg. $24 or $19.20 Maven pricejulep.com) is specifically designed to be used with Julep’s new Glow Pore-Minimizing Blush and features an angled bristle design that hugs the contours of your face for a naturally beautiful finish.

Julep Bronzer Brush (reg. $28 or $22.40 Maven pricejulep.com) features Julep’s “comfortable, weighted handle” and has a “unique tulip shape” that evenly picks up and distributes bronzer for a “natural, sun-kissed glow.”

All in all I really did enjoy the Julep Maven box for April and I’m glad that I upgraded and got the whole entire Vivid Collection but I was a little disappointed in the packaging of the blush and bronzer. I seriously hope they fix this issue before officially releasing these products on their website.
