Birchbox was the first subscription box I ever subscribed to and I have been receiving Birchboxes for a few years now (I think about three years). It’s one of the cheapest subscription boxes at just $10 per month, so I really think that it’s worth it even if I don’t love every single product every single month. I do find a lot of great products and brands through Birchbox that I probably wouldn’t know about if I wasn’t a subscriber, so that’s what really stands out the most for me when it comes to this particular beauty subscription.
Birchbox sends out five “prestige” beauty samples every month, plus some lifestyle products if you choose to receive them. You can customize your Birchbox to fit your style preferences so a bunch of different box variations are sent out each month. The box I received is just one of the many Birchbox variations this month.
I love how Birchbox has been re-designing the actual box this month and the pretty spring design for March is definitely my favorite so far. Birchbox used to send out the products in their regular brown cardboard “birch” box each month, but each box since December has been a new, pretty, special design. So now on to the products …
Harvey Prince “Sincerely” Fragrance ($26 for 0.30 oz. or $55 for 1.70 oz.; birchbox.com): I’m usually not big on fragrance samples (I even checked the option to receive less than six of these every year on my Birchbox profile), but I absolutely love this perfume. I received a different Harvey Prince fragrance in a past Birchbox called “Happy” and I loved that too. I probably would never have even tried these out if it wasn’t for Birchbox and I am definitely going to be ordering the full-size version of either one of these perfumes soon.
The “Sincerely” fragrance is a “sweetly spicy scent” and it stays put FAR longer than pretty much any other perfume I have ever worn. I was shocked when I still got whiffs of it later on in the day. Another reason I love Harvey Prince perfumes!
Fekkai PrX Reparatives Shampoo ($20 for 8 oz.; birchbox.com): I don’t really use regular shampoo (I use cleansing conditioner) so I kinda wish Birchbox would stop sending me so many shampoos. I feel like I get a new sample at least every other month. But anyway, I do try to use a gentle shampoo every so often, especially when I have gone a few too many days without washing my hair, but I didn’t really like this one — it left my hair feeling pretty dry and it isn’t sulfate-free. But, of course, everyone is different and this product got pretty high reviews on the Birchbox website so lots of people did seem to like it. Just not for me.
Jelly Pong Pong GLOW GETTER Highlighter ($12.75 for 0.14 oz.; birchbox.com): I’ve gotten so many new highlighters recently (absolutely LOVE the new one from Julep), so i really don’t need a product like this. I haven’t tried it out yet but it sounds kinda cool — it’s an oil-free, “weightless gel highlighter” that’s made with 80 percent water, which gives it a lightweight texture that won’t clog pores. I’m going to try this one out but I will probably end up passing it along to a friend because I am really so happy with the current powder highlighter(s) I am using.
Beauty Protector Protect & Oil ($25.95 for 4 oz.; birchbox.com): I haven’t tried out this product yet either but I remember receiving a different product from the Beauty Protector brand in a past Birchbox that I thought was pretty good. This one is a “lightweight hair oil” that protects against UV rays and heat damage. Sounds basic enough. I’ll probably try this out next time I blow dry my hair.
Mirenesse Mattfinity Lip Rouge in Sydney ($29 for 0.25 oz.; birchbox.com): I wish I got a better photo of this lip color, but it just wasn’t working for me. Anyway, this is a smooth and hydrating mattifying lip color that “glides over lips for a polished look.” I really liked this formula but I’m not so big on red lips, so I passed it along to my friend who loves red lip color and she absolutely loves this one — and it looks great on her too!
Subscription Box Breakdown:
I wasn’t really crazy about the products in this month’s Birchbox — just not for me, I guess. I know my friends will enjoy the products I’m not using so at least they won’t go to waste. I was pleasantly surprised, however, to find a new perfume that I absolutely love. I am definitely buying myself a Harvey Prince perfume sometime in the near future!
