Pop Sugar Must Have subscription box for June 2014

This month Pop Sugar updated it’s Must Have box a little bit with a new design on the inside of the box (it used to say “Enjoy!” now it says “Surprise. Love. Enjoy!“), and a new, more compact design for the product description card that comes with every box. I definitely like this new description card better — the old one used to fold out into six different sections, one section for each item featured that month, and the new one folds out into just three sections with product descriptions on the left and right and then photos of the actual products in the center.

The new product description card that was featured with this month’s Must Have box (the front side of it at least).

I’m always excited for my Pop Sugar Must Have box every month because it’s the only box I subscribe to that features all full-sized products, and there is a big variety in products from beauty to fashion to home decor, fitness, food, and more. At first, I kind of thought this month’s box was a little on the less-exciting side, but, honestly, as I go through these products more and more and now that I’m actually using them I’m liking the box way more than I did when I initially opened it two days ago.

You Smell Lemon Wet Wipes

Every time I run out of a beauty product it seems like it always appears in my world within a week or so in a subscription box. I ran out of makeup wipes a few days ago actually, so I was happy to see these individually-packed wet cleansing wipes in this month’s Must Have box. At first I thought that they were just your regular run-of-the-mill wet wipes, but they have multiple uses and they are gentle enough (and effective enough) to use on your face for makeup removal.

You Smell Lemon Wet Wipes

You Smell Lemon Wet Wipes ($6 for 12 individually wrapped wipes; yousmellsoap.com) are described as “naturally antibacterial wipes” that are both durable, gentle, and alcohol-free. These soothing, individually-wrapped wipes are great for cleansing and are made with aloe to help soothe and restore the skin. They are strong enough “for a lot of use,” gentle enough for your face, and they do not contain any parabens or phthalates.

One Potato Two Potato Hawaiian BBQ Kettle-Cooked Chips

I’m really never that impressed by a lot of the snacks that have appeared in my Must Have boxes over the last few months — many of them are super healthy and because of their good-for-you ingredients a lot of them lack significant flavor. I mean, don’t get me wrong, I still always eat them (so I guess there isn’t room for too many complaints), BUT what I’m trying to say is that I was a lot happier this month with these super yummy kettle-cooked Hawaiian BBQ-flavored chips. I’m not even a big potato chip person, but these were great … and the packaging is also really cute.

One Potato Two Potato Hawaiian BBQ Kettle Potato Chips ($2 for 2 oz., or $24 for a case of 24 two-oz. bags; onepotatosnacks.com) are cooked with all-natural ingredients, “packed with flavor”, and they are gluten-free with no MSG. These super yummy chips are kettle cooked in small batches with sunflower oil, which contains vitamin E and monounsaturated fat (“the good fat”), and they come in five different flavors.

Lollies Basic Hair Ties review and photos. Pop Sugar Must Have June 2014 Review + Photos. Photo copyright 2014 Sugarglow Blog: Makeup, skincare, hair products, reviews, subscription boxes, DIY, fashion and more. www.sugarglowbeauty.com.

Lollies Basic Hair Ties

I love this whole new, cute hair tie revolution. It’s like everyone is making hair ties right now that look super cute in your hair, and even cuter when worn on your wrist.

Lollies Basics Hair Ties ($8 for three ties, lollieshairties.com) are made of swimsuit material that doesn’t stretch over time and they come in packs of three in a bunch of different color combinations. The ones featured in the June Must Have box came with a little gold ring, and then, on the website, there are others without the ring that tie together at the end instead. I’m definitely ordering more of these!

Emily Giffin’s “The One & Only”

I’ve been reading so many non-fiction books recently that I haven’t read a real novel in over a year, so I was very happy to see this one in the June Must Have box. I think it’s awesome to receive a hardcover book in a subscription box, and this looks like one that I’ll definitely enjoy.

Emily Giffin’s “The One & Only” ($28; amazon.com) is the highly anticipated new novel from the New York Times bestselling author. It is the story of “an unlikely romance and lifelong friends set against the backdrop of Texas football.” I read the extended summary on the inside sleeve and I’m definitely excited to start reading!

Turkish-T Beach Towel review and photos. Pop Sugar Must Have June 2014 Review + Photos. Photo copyright 2014 Sugarglow Blog: Makeup, skincare, hair products, reviews, subscription boxes, DIY, fashion and more. www.sugarglowbeauty.com.

Turkish-T Beach Towel

I actually haven’t unfolded this beach towel just yet because I’m never able to roll these kinds of things back up correctly, but, from what I see (and feel) this towel is very pretty, “chic”, and it definitely doesn’t feel like your average beach towel, which could be a good thing. I’m totally into anything unique and outside-the-box, so I’ll be rocking this towel down at the beach in the coming weeks. It really doesn’t seem all that big, but Pop Sugar says it’s a beach towel, so it must be big enough for the beach.

Turkish-T Basic Breeze Sorbet Terry-Lined Beach Towel ($32; turkish-t.com) is a lightweight beach towel “loomed from the world’s finest cotton” with an added light layer of terry that makes it “an ideal beach towel, pool towel, or bath towel.” It comes in a bunch of different colors and my favorite part about it is that it doubles as a “glam wrap” at night.

SACHAJUAN Shiny Citrus Body Lotion review and photos. Pop Sugar Must Have June 2014 Review + Photos. Photo copyright 2014 Sugarglow Blog: Makeup, skincare, hair products, reviews, subscription boxes, DIY, fashion and more. www.sugarglowbeauty.com.

SACHAJUAN Shiny Citrus Body Lotion

The last product in this month’s Pop Sugar Must Have box was an awesomely-sized luxe body lotion from SACHAJUAN. I love getting full-sized products like this that are always useful, no matter what season it is. It feels super smooth and it has a pretty, light, citrus-y scent.

SACHAJUAN Shiny Citrus Body Lotion ($24 for 10.1 oz.; sachajuan.com) is described as a “luxurious body lotion” with “earthen silk technology” to hydrate and soothe skin. This lotion has “anti-aging and anti-irritant properties” and leaves skin feeling smooth with a light scent of fresh citrus and jasmine.

www.sugarglowbeauty.com
I definitely liked every single product featured this month and I was happy to discover a few new products that I will probably be ordering more of (like the hair ties, the wet wipes, and even the potato chips). The novel really seems like one I will enjoy, and I love receiving super-sized necessities like the 10-oz. SACHAJUAN body lotion. Oh, and, I love when Pop Sugar includes a fashion accessory that I’ll get plenty of use out of like the beach towel. If I find my way to a beachy vacation this summer I’ll also be using it as a wrap.

I forgot to mention (because I didn’t take a picture of it), that this month’s box also included a $15 gift card to Native Union, a company that creates tech accessories and “geek gadgetry.” I haven’t perused the site just yet, but I’m sure I’ll find something I like (I always do …).

Pop Sugar Must Have May 2014 subscription box

I usually love my Pop Sugar Must Have box every month, well, I love pretty much all of the subscription boxes I receive, but the Pop Sugar box always has an awesome mix of all full-sized products and it’s probably the box I look forward to the most. It costs a bit more than a lot of the other boxes (at $39.95/month), but it’s definitely worth it because it isn’t a sampling service — you’re actually receiving all full-sized items (many of them are new), ranging from fashion to beauty to fitness, food, jewelry, etc.

Pop Sugar Must Have arrives in this big pink and white box every month

This month’s Pop Sugar box wasn’t the most exciting, but there were still a bunch of products I really like and the best part, for me, is receiving products that I normally wouldn’t buy for myself (like the Citrus Zinger) and discovering new products (like the beachy-scented perfume spray).

Hi I'm Skinny Sticks Multi-Grain Sweet Onion review and photos. Pop Sugar Must Have May 2014 Review + Photos. Monthly beauty, fashion, lifestyle subscription box review. Hi I’m Skinny Sticks Multi-Grain Sweet Onion

First up is the Must Have Food item of the month — these crunchy, airy, multi-grain, sweet onion-flavored snack sticks. These are okay. I like healthy food but I don’t like healthy food when it tastes too healthy. These are good because you get that satisfying crunch that you normally would from a potato chip (with 40% less fat), but they still taste a little too …. healthy. The sweet onion taste is kind of blocked by the taste of the multi grain, in my humble opinion. You can still taste the sweet onion flavor, but the overall flavor that I got was the multi grain.

Hi I’m Skinny Sticks Multi-Grain Sweet Onion ($4 for 7-oz. bag or $35.88 for a case of 12; hiimskinny.com) are described as a “super tasty and healthy alternative to chips and cookies,” with 40 percent less fat than potato chips, 15g of whole grains per serving, and under four calories per stick. These all-natural snacks are packed with “all kinds of grains” including whole ground corn, rice, oat flour, and barley.

Zing Anything Citrus Zinger review and photos. Pop Sugar Must Have May 2014 Review + Photos. Monthly beauty, fashion, lifestyle subscription box review. Zing Anything Citrus Zinger

I’m definitely excited about this citrus zinger because I have been wanting to make my own drinks for a few summers now …. just never really got around to it (like so many other things). This zinger is a very simple little device, really. You just press lemons, limes, or any other citrus directly into your water and you have your own refreshing drink. I just bought a lemon-scented/flavored leaf plant for the garden (I forgot the name of it), and those leaves are going to infuse an awesome flavor into the drinks I make with this thing.

Zing Anything Citrus Zinger ($16.99 for one zinger; zinganything.com) is a simple, easy-to-use zinger specifically designed for citrus fruits like lemons, limes, clementines, and more. You can easily extract juice and flavor from citrus fruits to infuse them directly into your water bottle and create delicious lemonades, limeades, and orangeades. This zinger can be used with your on-the-go water bottle and enhance your water with vitamin C and flavonoids. The Zing Anything website has detailed instructions for how to use and wash the zinger, plus recipes to make a bunch of different drinks.

Tone It Up One Day Fat Blast and Kerry Cassill Eye Mask review and photos. Pop Sugar Must Have May 2014 Review + Photos. Monthly beauty, fashion, lifestyle subscription box review. Tone It Up One Day Fat Blast and Kerry Cassill Eye Mask

These next two items were kind of … meh. The DVD is okay, and I’ll definitely be using it, but these get boring after awhile and I would really much rather go to my dance, yoga, and pilates classes to get fit. An eye mask is something I have never used and I have a feeling I probably won’t be using it because I usually pass out every night in my bed still half typing on my laptop. Hee.

Tone It Up One Day Fat Blast ($15 for one DVD; toneitup.com) contains two “fat-burning, calorie-smashing workouts” with the ladies from Bravo’s Toned Up. Each calorie-blasting workout is only 30 minutes long, so even the busiest of girls can fit in a quick workout sesh.

Kerry Cassill Eye Mask ($24 for one mask; kerrycassill.com) is made of soft voile cotton and comes in a bunch of different colors/patterns “so you can sleep peacefully.”

Obsessive Compulsive Cosmetics Pool Boy Nail Lacquer review and photos. Pop Sugar Must Have May 2014 Review + Photos. Monthly beauty, fashion, lifestyle subscription box review. Obsessive Compulsive Cosmetics Pool Boy Nail Lacquer

I was really excited about this next item because I needed a new, pretty, bright blue polish for the summer. I also haven’t used any polishes from Obsessive Compulsive Cosmetics before, so I was excited to try this one out. The smell kind of threw me off when I opened it up, and I thought that it was formulated with all the icky stuff that so many nail polish companies have been straying away from, but a quick reading of the bottle assured me that this polish is 100% vegan, cruelty-free, and formulated without all the questionable ingredients.

Obsessive Compulsive Cosmetics Nail Lacquer ($10 for 0.5 oz.; sephora.com) is described as a “nail lacquer in a professional formulation and modern color palette.” These polishes come in over 40 different densely pigmented, quick-drying, and “super long-lasting” shades.

Smell Bent St. Tropez Dispenser

So the last item in this month’s Pop Sugar Must Have box ended up being my favorite. I am in LOVE with the beachy smell of this fragrance spray, and I have even been spritzing it around my room and car, essentially having this scent all over everything I own. My puppy even smells like this spray now since it rubs off on him after I cover him in hugs. I think this is the kind of scent that a lot of people might not really like — it’s like a mix of the beach, tanning lotion, some coconut, and jasmine — but I love it and I’m going to check out more fragrance sprays from Smell Bent to see what else they have to offer.

Smell Bent St. Tropez Dispenser

Smell Bent St. Tropez Dispenser ($45 for 1.7 oz.; smellbent.com) is described as having an “intoxicating blend of jasmine absolute and fresh coconut aromas” — it’s pretty much the beach in a bottle. This fragrance spray contains notes of jasmine, fresh coconut, aloe vera, and vintage musk. Like I said before — I don’t think this scent is for everyone, but I am certainly enjoying it.

www.sugarglowbeauty.com
This month wasn’t my favorite Pop Sugar Must Have box, but I really liked three of the items (the nail polish, the fragrance spray, and the citrus zinger). As far as value goes, this box definitely surpassed the $39.99 price (as do all Pop Sugar Must Have boxes). I’m just looking forward to what the June box has to offer; if one month is kind of meh, then the next month is usually a lot better.

I always look forward to my Pop Sugar Must Have box every month because it’s always jam-packed with sweet stuff … all full-sized items ranging from makeup to fashion, home decor and even food. This month’s box was pretty cool, but nothing really blew me away, except for the Too Faced eyeshadow palette, which alone made the whole box worth it, especially value-wise (the box costs about $40/month and the Too Faced palette costs $36).

Every Pop Sugar Must Have box comes with a card detailing every item sent out that month and a message from Pop Sugar Founder and Editor-In-Chief LIsa Sugar.

The first item this month was a cute set of dish towels that I really don’t need … but I’m passing them along to my BFF and her awesome roommate because I know they will definitely put them to use.

Fresh Pastry Stand Totally Awesome Tea Towel Set ($18 for two dish towels; etsy.com/shop/freshpastrystand) are a set of dish towels that are handmade from a water-based ink and completely lint-free, each with a bold graphic print.

I couldn’t really get a good photo of these towels, but I did take a photo of the card that came with this month’s Pop Sugar box and it shows how these towels look when they are folded properly, showing the “Totally” and “Awesome” prints (above).

The next item was the “Must Have Food” item of the month: a trail mix from Nature Box created exclusively for Pop Sugar. Pop Sugar Must Have often includes healthy, good-for-you snacks in their monthly boxes and I usually enjoy them. This one was okay … It was kind of bland, but it’s great for extra nutrients and an energy boost mid-day. I think they should have added another fruity element, perhaps dried apricots or something, just to round it out. They kinda skimped on the dried cranberries in this bag and if they added more of them it really would have made the mix a lot yummier.

Nature Box Pop Sugar Must Have Mix ($5 for 4.5 oz.; naturebox.com/popsugar) is a custom trail mix created exclusively for Pop Sugar Must Have. This specific mix isn’t available online, but you can join Nature Box for $19.95/month and receive a bunch of healthy snacks each month. This mix was a “balanced medley” of almonds, soybeans, corn and cranberries and, like all Nature Box snacks, it contains no artificial colors or flavors, no corn syrup and no hydrogenated oils.

Blue Avocado (Eco) Shopper

This super cute shopping bag, created by Lauren Conrad, conveniently folds up into a wallet-sized zipper pouch and then you can unzip it and it will fold out into a full-sized (rather large) shopper (below). The design is super cute and I am loving the mint green color for spring, so I will definitely put this item to use.

Blue Avocado (Eco) Shopper

Blue Avocado (Eco) Shopper ($25; blueavocado.com) is a “collapsible tote” made from upcycled plastic bottles that is “perfect for carrying just about anything.” It’s really big .. so it can definitely carry a lot, and the design is super cute. Plus, it’s made from 50% post-consumer recycled bottles and 1% of profits goes to ocean research and conservation.

Too Faced Natural Eyes Palette Review and photos. Pop Sugar Must Have April 2014 Review + Photos. Photo copyright 2014 Sugarglow Blog: Makeup, skincare, hair products, reviews, subscription boxes, DIY, fashion and more. www.sugarglowbeauty.com.

This palette from Too Faced is awesome and it totally made the whole April Pop Sugar Must Have Box worth it, especially value-wise. I actually was never really a big fan of Too Faced eyeshadows, but these are wonderful and the whole palette includes great shades that are perfect for day-to-night wear.

Too Faced Natural Eyes Palette Review and photos. Pop Sugar Must Have April 2014 Review + Photos. Photo copyright 2014 Sugarglow Blog: Makeup, skincare, hair products, reviews, subscription boxes, DIY, fashion and more. www.sugarglowbeauty.com.

Too Faced Natural Eyes Palette ($36 for nine eyeshadows; toofaced.com) contains nine blendable, neutral eyeshadow shades for “every age and skin tone.” This palette comes with a “Glamour Guide” that shows you how to use the shadows for three different looks and three of the shadows are brand-new Too Faced shades. I was pretty impressed with this palette — pretty neutrals that blend really well and look great for any type of event, school, work, etc. for both day and night.

Graphic Image Pocket Notes notebook and Caldrea Rosewater Driftwood Hand Soap review and photos. Pop Sugar Must Have April 2014 Review + Photos. Photo copyright 2014 Sugarglow Blog: Makeup, skincare, hair products, reviews, subscription boxes, DIY, fashion and more. www.sugarglowbeauty.com.

Graphic Image Pocket Notes (left) and Caldrea Rosewater Driftwood Hand Soap (right)

I’m a writer and I’m constantly taking notes and jotting things down everywhere I go so I love it when I receive a new notebook. I always get excited even buying new notebooks for myself since I’m such a nerd so it’s even more exciting when I get surprised by one in a subscription box. This little notebook is the perfect size for on-the-go note-taking and it has pretty little pages with a silver trim and a ribbon so that you can bookmark whatever page you like. This particular notebook was designed exclusively for Pop Sugar, but you can purchase the same size and personalize it with whatever word, initials or saying you want printed on the front.

Graphic Image Pocket Notes ($20-$36; graphicimage.com) is a take-anywhere notebook with silver edges, acid-free paper and a flexible cover to keep your life in order “the smart and stylish way.” Graphic Image’s notebooks are leather and they can be personalized.

The last product in the April Pop Sugar Must Have box was this beautifully scented hand soap by Caldrea. Caldrea Rosewater Driftwood Hand Soap ($10.50 for 10.8 oz.; caldrea.com) contains a combination of floral aromas and spicy cedar undertones that leaves hands feeling soft, clean and fragrant. This is a gentle yet hardworking soap free of any harmful chemicals. It contains aloe vera gel, olive oil and essential oils to cleanse and condition and it comes in seven different scents (including this “Rosewater Driftwood” scent).

All in all I think that this month’s Pop Sugar Must Have box was pretty good. I loved the Too Faced eyeshadow, which, at $36, is nearly the cost of the entire subscription box for the month, so the value alone is extremely worth it. I loved the gentle Caldrea soap, it smelled amazing, and I loved the little notebook and shopper. I’m passing the dish towels along to my BFF and her roommate because I know they will put them to use, and the Nature Box mix was okay … definitely packed with healthy, good-for-you stuff, but I just found it to be a little too bland for my taste.

Yayyy spring is here and, even though we still have had a few whacky, cold snow days here in New York, the weather has generally been getting warmer and yesterday was especially beautiful! I feel like springtime comes sooo slowly and when it’s finally here we only have about a month (sometimes even less) of actual “spring” weather before the hot days of summer arrive.

With the beautiful spring weather comes my birthday (yippeee!) in April, and, the best part, is a change in wardrobe with all the pretty spring colors that adorn everything from fashion and accessories to makeup, housewares and decorations. I love spring colors and one of my favorites is this pretty mint green.

The mint Marc by Marc Jacobs handbag (above) is what inspired this post, since that is exactly what I want for my birthday (from my wonderful mom). I tried to keep this post as short and sweet as possible — you can click any of the links next to the product names above for more information 🙂

Smashbox Summer 2014: The Santigold Collection [Photo: Smashbox.com]

I know Smashbox debuted their new summer collection about a month ago, but the products have finally hit shelves so I just wanted to do a post going over all the awesomeness that is their new Santigolden Age Collection.

The Santigolden Age Collection was created by artist Santigold, who fused unexpected vivid colors and elements into the collection the same way she does regularly with her amazing fashion sense and all-around artistic boldness. This exclusive collection is influenced by Santigold’s “strong creative sense of collage,” with a “vivid and playful” color palette that is really unlike any beauty collection I have seen recently.

The whole collection is gorgeous and I can’t wait to get my hands on those eyeliner pencils. Besides the fact that the colors are amazing and there are a bunch of different products to choose from (from shadows to liners to lipgloss to nail stickers and even a lipstick ring), the artwork and packaging design is really over-the-top beautiful, so these items will definitely be some great collectors’ pieces.

The new Smashbox Santigolden Age Collection for the summer contains five different items, four of which have two different color combinations:

Smashbox The Santigolden Age Eye Shadow Collage ($36 for 0.17 oz.; smashbox.com) is described as a “one-of-a-kind collaged and mirrored palette with five dramatic wet-to-dry eyeshadows.”

Apocalypse Now” (above) consists of a shimmery oyster shade, shimmery tea, sparkling pewter, matte black and bright golden orange.

Double-Ended Limitless Liner. [Photo: Smashbox.com]

My favorite items in the collection are these gorgeous, versatile, bold eyeliners. The Smashbox Santigolden Age Double-Ended Limitless Liner ($24 for two 0.02-oz. pencilssmashbox.com) is described as a “double-ended eyeliner with eight-hour staying power and limitless possibilities.”

There are two different liner pencils in the new collection with two different shades on each one: Yellow Dwarf/Green Martian (a bright yellow and a mint green — on the left of the photo above); and Azurite is Never Wrong/El Dorado (a bright azure blue and earthy gold — on the right of the photo).

Be Legendary Lipgloss in All Gold E’rything (left) and Hot Lava (right). [Photo: Smashbox.com]

The next two products are Smashbox’s Be Legendary lipgloss formula in two very “Santigolden” shades. Smashbox The Santigolden Age Be Legendary Gloss ($20 for 0.20 oz.; smashbox.com) is described as “a vibrant, glassy-finish gloss hand-picked by artist Santigold.”

All Gold E’rything” is described as a “sheer copper sparkle” and “Hot Lava” is described as a “sheer red-orange.” I’m loving the gold color so I will definitely be picking that one up (red is not really my thing, even though this red looks lovely).

Nail Polish Art Strips in “Serpent Charmer” (left) and “The Eye of the Beholder” (right). [Photo: Smashbox.com]

These sweeeet nail polish stickers come with two different designs in one pack and I have a feeling they will work pretty well, since they’re made by Smashbox (I usually have such a problem with these things). Smashbox The Santigolden Age Nail Polish Art Strips ($22 for set of two different patterns; smashbox.com) are described as “one-of-a-kind, mistake-proof nail strips designed by artist Santigold,” who is known for her collage art and strong creative sense, which influenced the whole collection’s “vivid and playful color range.”

Serpent Charmer” (left) is a black snake pattern on what looks like a glittery gold background; and “The Eye of the Beholder” (right) is a creepy-cool (and yet pretty at the same time) silver eye design on a black background. I love the design and colors of the black eye pattern strips and, even though I’m not usually into snake-print anything, the gold one is pretty cool. I could definitely rock these.

Be Legendary Lipstick Ring in “Still Kickin.” [Photo: Smashbox.com]

The last product in the collection is a jewelry-and-makeup-in-one deal. This is a really pretty lipstick ring that is actually not tacky (in my opinion). I usually find these things to be either childish (‘cuz they’re usually for kids) or just tacky-looking. These are actually really nice.

Smashbox The Santigolden Age Be Legendary Lipstick Ring ($49 for one ring in size 8; smashbox.com) is described as “a collectible snake ring that holds a limited-edition shade of Be Legendary Lipstick inside.” This is the only product in the collection that comes in just one shade, but it’s a pretty “golden reddish coral.” I’m definitely picking this one up too.

I might as well just get the whole collection at this point (maybe just one eyeshadow shade, though, and just the gold lipgloss, not the red one). This collection is gorgeous and I usually don’t do posts as previews for new beauty collections, especially when I haven’t even bought the collection myself yet (using the official photos), but this one was way too pretty to pass up.

Glossybox is definitely one of the subscription boxes that I look forward to the most each month and I usually love every single item they choose. Glossybox has its roots in the UK where it started and they often send out products from the UK and products from other European-based beauty brands which I love — most of the time, I find that these products work amazingly well and its fun to experiment and try out items that don’t get as much attention here in the states. I often like a lot of these products way better than their American counterparts.

This month, Glossybox also sent out a very “Made in America” brand — two different products from Rhode Island jeweler Alex and Ani. The Alex and Ani soap bar is HUGE and awesome and then there was also a surprise charm bangle bracelet that I was super happy to receive.

This month’s box also featured an awesome hot pink polish from Nails Inc. London (one of my favorite polish brands), a multi-tasking hair product from Alterna (one of my favorite haircare brands), a hydrating facial mask with good-for-you vitamins and plant extracts, as well as a gentle lip moisturizer/exfoliator that actually works (for me, at least).

All in all I was very happy with this month’s Glossybox and I honestly feel like each month gets better and better. Glossybox always sends out more “luxurious” products than the other beauty subscription boxes (in my opinion) and, even though it might be a little more expensive than some other boxes, it is well worth the $20/month charge (also my opinion).

The first product was this SUPER big and awesome soap bar from Alex and Ani (they make soap too?? I had no idea …). I love the earthy/floral scent of this bar … when I took it out of the Glossybox the scent filled up my whole room and it lingered for a good part of the day on my skin after using it in the shower. I also felt like my skin was noticeably moisturized and all-around better feeling after using this soap. I am all about aromatherapy and beauty products that “invigorate your senses,” so I am definitely happy that this came in the March Glossybox.

Alex and Ani Scent 7 Soap Bar (reg. $14 for 7 oz.alexandani.com) is “inspired by ancient alchemy and scented with warm spice and sweet floral undertones.” It contains shea butter and coconut oil that “effectively nurtures the skin, increasing hydration and thoroughly cleansing the body,” and it is crafted with “essential oils that embody the four elements: earth, air, fire and water,” that, when combined, “assist in harmonizing one’s chi.” Sweet.

Glossybox threw in a non-beauty “bonus item” this month which is awesome and I love when subscription boxes switch it up with a surprise like this. It’s especially cool when it’s a full-sized bracelet that I will most certainly be wearing and probably buying more charms for. I’ve only just heard of Alex and Ani jewelry recently — the company was founded in 2004 but only opened their first retail store in 2009 and then further expanded the business in 2010 and even added European stores a couple of years later.

I love jewelry and, even more, I love “free” jewelry (well, this was sort of free … minus Glossybox’s monthly $20 subscription fee), so the March Glossybox was a total win. As I said before, I feel like I’m loving the Glossyboxes more and more every month.

Alex and Ani Swan Charm Bangle (reg. $28alexandani.com) comes in a “Russian Gold” or “Russian Silver” finish (I received the silver one) with a swan charm plus three small Alex and Ani logo charms. The majestic swan is a creature that “embodies grace and beauty” and is a “powerful symbol of love.” This bracelet is made with Alex and Ani’s unique and original “Expandable Wire Bangle” design that “replaces traditional clasps with a sliding mechanism, making each piece adjustable” so that it fits perfectly for everyone.

Alterna Haircare Bamboo Volume Plumping Strand Expand and Etre Belle Cosmetics Liplift Peel review and photos. I absolutely love Alterna haircare products, and. out of all the hair products I have tried throughout the years, Alterna is one of the only brands that ever seems to actually work and make a difference in my dry, damaged, color-treated hair. WIth that being said, I was delighteddd to see this Alterna volumizer/hair beautifier in my March Glossybox, especially because it’s a product that I  have never used before.

Alterna Haircare Bamboo Volume Plumping Strand Expand (reg. $22 for 4 oz.alternahaircare.com) is described as a “thickening lotion that strengthens, moisturizes and adds volume to the hair from root to tip,” leaving hair appearing more full-bodied without weighing it down. I haven’t tried this one out yet, but I like the fact that it’s a volumizing lotion, as opposed to a traditional volumizing spray, plus it’s by Alterna so I have a feeling I’m going to love it.

The next product is from German beauty company Etre Belle Cosmetics. I can’t seem to find this product for sale anywhere that will deliver to the US, but I have a feeling it will be more widely available soon. Occasionally, Glossybox will send out a product from a European beauty company that you can’t really (easily) find in the US or Canada, but then, when the product is opened up to a whole new country of potential buyers, the product becomes available somewhere over here for purchase. I guess we’ll have to wait and see.

Etre Belle Cosmetics Liplift Peel (reg. $17.80 for 0.5 oz.etre-belle.co) is described as a “gentle and moisurizing exfoliator for the lip area” that “gently removes dead cells and refines the surface skin.” This lip exfoliator is formulated with pure hyaluronic microspheres to smooth and it adds up to 54% more volume on the lips.

I was actually just about to buy a new hot pink nail polish because I ran out of all the ones I had and then my Glossybox arrived with this cute little bottle in it. I love this color and, even though the polish came out a little streaky at first, if you use a good top coat it will dry to a perfect opaque shade.

Nails Inc. Brook Street Nail Polish (reg. $9.50 for 0.33 oz.nailsinc.com) is described as a “bright, summery coral” that is professionally formulated for a “long lasting, super glossy, flawless finish.”

The last product in the March Glossybox was a hydrating cream mask that is absolutely perfect for my dry winter skin. I only tried out this product once so far for a quick test so I can’t really judge how well it works just yet.

Sisley Paris Black Rose Cream Mask (reg. $158 for 2.1 oz.nordstrom.com) is described as “a skincare mask rich in trace elements, vitamins and plant extracts” that is “specially formulated to act instantly on the signs of aging and fatigue to rejuvenate skin and restore vitality.” This is Sisley’s first mask that is enriched with “anti-aging active ingredients” to restore skin’s radiance and tones while immediately hydrating and re-plumping for visibly softer and smoother skin.

Darby Smart is a monthly DIY subscription box service that sends out a “TO DIY FOR” box every month and also offers various DIY kits that you can buy at any time. I absolutely love Darby Smart and it’s my favorite DIY subscription service. I’ve always loved creative projects but I’ve always been just a writer, and never really felt very artsy or creative … I’m also impatient and a total mess, so I always kinda thought these projects weren’t for me. Darby Smart makes it SO easy to complete super cute and fun DIY projects and all of their projects are extremely practical — from jewelry to jewelry holders to candles, clutches, accessories and more.

Darby Smart Jewelry Design Starter Set Review + Photos: Pretty (and Easy!) DIY Embellished Bracelets Kit. Photo copyright 2014 Sugarglow Blog: Makeup, skincare, hair products, reviews, subscription boxes, DIY, fashion and more. www.sugarglowbeauty.com.

I actually go onto the Darby Smart website now when I need something for my room to see if they have a DIY box so I can make it myself instead of going out to buy it in the store. The monthly TO DIY FOR box is fun because you have no idea what it’s going to be until it arrives at your doorstep and these surprise boxes have been mostly practical/everyday use/home decor-type projects as well.

I got the Jewelry Design Starter Set awhile ago and it’s the first Darby Smart project I completed. I took the photos months ago and I kind of wish now that I did a step-by-step photo tutorial so I could post it here in my blog. I’m definitely going to do that for future Darby Smart projects. So, this post isn’t very photo-heavy but I wanted to give you a general idea of what the jewelry starter kit was all about.

THE DARBY SMART JEWELRY DESIGN STARTER SET CONTAINS:

– 6 gold bangles
– 2 sets of trim: one plastic pearl-ish pattern and one gold pattern with rhinestones
– 5 different thread colors: mint/teal green, navy blue, bright sky blue, hot pink and white
– super glue

Each Darby Smart DIY kit comes with a step-by-step instruction card, and then you can go to their website for more instructions, photos and inspiration.

These bangles were pretty easy to make, except for the fact that the super glue got all over my fingers, which isn’t surprising because I am a MESS.

Basically, you start by supergluing the thread color of your choice to the inside of the gold bracelet (this is optional — some bracelets I made had the thread on the inside and some of them didn’t), then you put the embellishment of your choice around the outside and start threading one of the thread colors over the embellishment in-between each one to get them to stay on the bracelet. I used the white pearls for this bracelet (above).

I ended up using all six of the bangles that came in the kit but I didn’t really take many pictures and I wanted to get this post up quickly so I decided not to re-take the photos. I used the rhinestone embellishment (above) and then I did a mix-and-match with embellishments and the different thread colors mixing them up on each bracelet.

This was the only photo of more of the bracelets that I have right now, since I was able to simply retrieve it from my Instagram page. As you can see, I mixed-and-matched the thread colors and embellishments and for the top pink bracelet I even left some of it completely gold instead of covering it with the thread. So this kit really allows you to use your creativity to make a bunch of unique bracelet patterns/designs and it’s SUPER easy to do!
