Pop Sugar Must Have subscription box for June 2014

This month Pop Sugar updated it’s Must Have box a little bit with a new design on the inside of the box (it used to say “Enjoy!” now it says “Surprise. Love. Enjoy!“), and a new, more compact design for the product description card that comes with every box. I definitely like this new description card better — the old one used to fold out into six different sections, one section for each item featured that month, and the new one folds out into just three sections with product descriptions on the left and right and then photos of the actual products in the center.

The new product description card that was featured with this month’s Must Have box (the front side of it at least).

I’m always excited for my Pop Sugar Must Have box every month because it’s the only box I subscribe to that features all full-sized products, and there is a big variety in products from beauty to fashion to home decor, fitness, food, and more. At first, I kind of thought this month’s box was a little on the less-exciting side, but, honestly, as I go through these products more and more and now that I’m actually using them I’m liking the box way more than I did when I initially opened it two days ago.

You Smell Lemon Wet Wipes

Every time I run out of a beauty product it seems like it always appears in my world within a week or so in a subscription box. I ran out of makeup wipes a few days ago actually, so I was happy to see these individually-packed wet cleansing wipes in this month’s Must Have box. At first I thought that they were just your regular run-of-the-mill wet wipes, but they have multiple uses and they are gentle enough (and effective enough) to use on your face for makeup removal.

You Smell Lemon Wet Wipes

You Smell Lemon Wet Wipes ($6 for 12 individually wrapped wipes; yousmellsoap.com) are described as “naturally antibacterial wipes” that are both durable, gentle, and alcohol-free. These soothing, individually-wrapped wipes are great for cleansing and are made with aloe to help soothe and restore the skin. They are strong enough “for a lot of use,” gentle enough for your face, and they do not contain any parabens or phthalates.

One Potato Two Potato Hawaiian BBQ Kettle-Cooked Chips

I’m really never that impressed by a lot of the snacks that have appeared in my Must Have boxes over the last few months — many of them are super healthy and because of their good-for-you ingredients a lot of them lack significant flavor. I mean, don’t get me wrong, I still always eat them (so I guess there isn’t room for too many complaints), BUT what I’m trying to say is that I was a lot happier this month with these super yummy kettle-cooked Hawaiian BBQ-flavored chips. I’m not even a big potato chip person, but these were great … and the packaging is also really cute.

One Potato Two Potato Hawaiian BBQ Kettle Potato Chips ($2 for 2 oz., or $24 for a case of 24 two-oz. bags; onepotatosnacks.com) are cooked with all-natural ingredients, “packed with flavor”, and they are gluten-free with no MSG. These super yummy chips are kettle cooked in small batches with sunflower oil, which contains vitamin E and monounsaturated fat (“the good fat”), and they come in five different flavors.

Lollies Basic Hair Ties review and photos. Pop Sugar Must Have June 2014 Review + Photos. Photo copyright 2014 Sugarglow Blog: Makeup, skincare, hair products, reviews, subscription boxes, DIY, fashion and more. www.sugarglowbeauty.com.

Lollies Basic Hair Ties

I love this whole new, cute hair tie revolution. It’s like everyone is making hair ties right now that look super cute in your hair, and even cuter when worn on your wrist.

Lollies Basics Hair Ties ($8 for three ties, lollieshairties.com) are made of swimsuit material that doesn’t stretch over time and they come in packs of three in a bunch of different color combinations. The ones featured in the June Must Have box came with a little gold ring, and then, on the website, there are others without the ring that tie together at the end instead. I’m definitely ordering more of these!

Emily Giffin’s “The One & Only”

I’ve been reading so many non-fiction books recently that I haven’t read a real novel in over a year, so I was very happy to see this one in the June Must Have box. I think it’s awesome to receive a hardcover book in a subscription box, and this looks like one that I’ll definitely enjoy.

Emily Giffin’s “The One & Only” ($28; amazon.com) is the highly anticipated new novel from the New York Times bestselling author. It is the story of “an unlikely romance and lifelong friends set against the backdrop of Texas football.” I read the extended summary on the inside sleeve and I’m definitely excited to start reading!

Turkish-T Beach Towel review and photos. Pop Sugar Must Have June 2014 Review + Photos. Photo copyright 2014 Sugarglow Blog: Makeup, skincare, hair products, reviews, subscription boxes, DIY, fashion and more. www.sugarglowbeauty.com.

Turkish-T Beach Towel

I actually haven’t unfolded this beach towel just yet because I’m never able to roll these kinds of things back up correctly, but, from what I see (and feel) this towel is very pretty, “chic”, and it definitely doesn’t feel like your average beach towel, which could be a good thing. I’m totally into anything unique and outside-the-box, so I’ll be rocking this towel down at the beach in the coming weeks. It really doesn’t seem all that big, but Pop Sugar says it’s a beach towel, so it must be big enough for the beach.

Turkish-T Basic Breeze Sorbet Terry-Lined Beach Towel ($32; turkish-t.com) is a lightweight beach towel “loomed from the world’s finest cotton” with an added light layer of terry that makes it “an ideal beach towel, pool towel, or bath towel.” It comes in a bunch of different colors and my favorite part about it is that it doubles as a “glam wrap” at night.

SACHAJUAN Shiny Citrus Body Lotion review and photos. Pop Sugar Must Have June 2014 Review + Photos. Photo copyright 2014 Sugarglow Blog: Makeup, skincare, hair products, reviews, subscription boxes, DIY, fashion and more. www.sugarglowbeauty.com.

SACHAJUAN Shiny Citrus Body Lotion

The last product in this month’s Pop Sugar Must Have box was an awesomely-sized luxe body lotion from SACHAJUAN. I love getting full-sized products like this that are always useful, no matter what season it is. It feels super smooth and it has a pretty, light, citrus-y scent.

SACHAJUAN Shiny Citrus Body Lotion ($24 for 10.1 oz.; sachajuan.com) is described as a “luxurious body lotion” with “earthen silk technology” to hydrate and soothe skin. This lotion has “anti-aging and anti-irritant properties” and leaves skin feeling smooth with a light scent of fresh citrus and jasmine.

www.sugarglowbeauty.com
I definitely liked every single product featured this month and I was happy to discover a few new products that I will probably be ordering more of (like the hair ties, the wet wipes, and even the potato chips). The novel really seems like one I will enjoy, and I love receiving super-sized necessities like the 10-oz. SACHAJUAN body lotion. Oh, and, I love when Pop Sugar includes a fashion accessory that I’ll get plenty of use out of like the beach towel. If I find my way to a beachy vacation this summer I’ll also be using it as a wrap.

I forgot to mention (because I didn’t take a picture of it), that this month’s box also included a $15 gift card to Native Union, a company that creates tech accessories and “geek gadgetry.” I haven’t perused the site just yet, but I’m sure I’ll find something I like (I always do …).

Pop Sugar Must Have May 2014 subscription box

I usually love my Pop Sugar Must Have box every month, well, I love pretty much all of the subscription boxes I receive, but the Pop Sugar box always has an awesome mix of all full-sized products and it’s probably the box I look forward to the most. It costs a bit more than a lot of the other boxes (at $39.95/month), but it’s definitely worth it because it isn’t a sampling service — you’re actually receiving all full-sized items (many of them are new), ranging from fashion to beauty to fitness, food, jewelry, etc.

Pop Sugar Must Have arrives in this big pink and white box every month

This month’s Pop Sugar box wasn’t the most exciting, but there were still a bunch of products I really like and the best part, for me, is receiving products that I normally wouldn’t buy for myself (like the Citrus Zinger) and discovering new products (like the beachy-scented perfume spray).

Hi I'm Skinny Sticks Multi-Grain Sweet Onion review and photos. Pop Sugar Must Have May 2014 Review + Photos. Monthly beauty, fashion, lifestyle subscription box review. Hi I’m Skinny Sticks Multi-Grain Sweet Onion

First up is the Must Have Food item of the month — these crunchy, airy, multi-grain, sweet onion-flavored snack sticks. These are okay. I like healthy food but I don’t like healthy food when it tastes too healthy. These are good because you get that satisfying crunch that you normally would from a potato chip (with 40% less fat), but they still taste a little too …. healthy. The sweet onion taste is kind of blocked by the taste of the multi grain, in my humble opinion. You can still taste the sweet onion flavor, but the overall flavor that I got was the multi grain.

Hi I’m Skinny Sticks Multi-Grain Sweet Onion ($4 for 7-oz. bag or $35.88 for a case of 12; hiimskinny.com) are described as a “super tasty and healthy alternative to chips and cookies,” with 40 percent less fat than potato chips, 15g of whole grains per serving, and under four calories per stick. These all-natural snacks are packed with “all kinds of grains” including whole ground corn, rice, oat flour, and barley.

Zing Anything Citrus Zinger review and photos. Pop Sugar Must Have May 2014 Review + Photos. Monthly beauty, fashion, lifestyle subscription box review. Zing Anything Citrus Zinger

I’m definitely excited about this citrus zinger because I have been wanting to make my own drinks for a few summers now …. just never really got around to it (like so many other things). This zinger is a very simple little device, really. You just press lemons, limes, or any other citrus directly into your water and you have your own refreshing drink. I just bought a lemon-scented/flavored leaf plant for the garden (I forgot the name of it), and those leaves are going to infuse an awesome flavor into the drinks I make with this thing.

Zing Anything Citrus Zinger ($16.99 for one zinger; zinganything.com) is a simple, easy-to-use zinger specifically designed for citrus fruits like lemons, limes, clementines, and more. You can easily extract juice and flavor from citrus fruits to infuse them directly into your water bottle and create delicious lemonades, limeades, and orangeades. This zinger can be used with your on-the-go water bottle and enhance your water with vitamin C and flavonoids. The Zing Anything website has detailed instructions for how to use and wash the zinger, plus recipes to make a bunch of different drinks.

Tone It Up One Day Fat Blast and Kerry Cassill Eye Mask review and photos. Pop Sugar Must Have May 2014 Review + Photos. Monthly beauty, fashion, lifestyle subscription box review. Tone It Up One Day Fat Blast and Kerry Cassill Eye Mask

These next two items were kind of … meh. The DVD is okay, and I’ll definitely be using it, but these get boring after awhile and I would really much rather go to my dance, yoga, and pilates classes to get fit. An eye mask is something I have never used and I have a feeling I probably won’t be using it because I usually pass out every night in my bed still half typing on my laptop. Hee.

Tone It Up One Day Fat Blast ($15 for one DVD; toneitup.com) contains two “fat-burning, calorie-smashing workouts” with the ladies from Bravo’s Toned Up. Each calorie-blasting workout is only 30 minutes long, so even the busiest of girls can fit in a quick workout sesh.

Kerry Cassill Eye Mask ($24 for one mask; kerrycassill.com) is made of soft voile cotton and comes in a bunch of different colors/patterns “so you can sleep peacefully.”

Obsessive Compulsive Cosmetics Pool Boy Nail Lacquer review and photos. Pop Sugar Must Have May 2014 Review + Photos. Monthly beauty, fashion, lifestyle subscription box review. Obsessive Compulsive Cosmetics Pool Boy Nail Lacquer

I was really excited about this next item because I needed a new, pretty, bright blue polish for the summer. I also haven’t used any polishes from Obsessive Compulsive Cosmetics before, so I was excited to try this one out. The smell kind of threw me off when I opened it up, and I thought that it was formulated with all the icky stuff that so many nail polish companies have been straying away from, but a quick reading of the bottle assured me that this polish is 100% vegan, cruelty-free, and formulated without all the questionable ingredients.

Obsessive Compulsive Cosmetics Nail Lacquer ($10 for 0.5 oz.; sephora.com) is described as a “nail lacquer in a professional formulation and modern color palette.” These polishes come in over 40 different densely pigmented, quick-drying, and “super long-lasting” shades.

Smell Bent St. Tropez Dispenser

So the last item in this month’s Pop Sugar Must Have box ended up being my favorite. I am in LOVE with the beachy smell of this fragrance spray, and I have even been spritzing it around my room and car, essentially having this scent all over everything I own. My puppy even smells like this spray now since it rubs off on him after I cover him in hugs. I think this is the kind of scent that a lot of people might not really like — it’s like a mix of the beach, tanning lotion, some coconut, and jasmine — but I love it and I’m going to check out more fragrance sprays from Smell Bent to see what else they have to offer.

Smell Bent St. Tropez Dispenser

Smell Bent St. Tropez Dispenser ($45 for 1.7 oz.; smellbent.com) is described as having an “intoxicating blend of jasmine absolute and fresh coconut aromas” — it’s pretty much the beach in a bottle. This fragrance spray contains notes of jasmine, fresh coconut, aloe vera, and vintage musk. Like I said before — I don’t think this scent is for everyone, but I am certainly enjoying it.

www.sugarglowbeauty.com
This month wasn’t my favorite Pop Sugar Must Have box, but I really liked three of the items (the nail polish, the fragrance spray, and the citrus zinger). As far as value goes, this box definitely surpassed the $39.99 price (as do all Pop Sugar Must Have boxes). I’m just looking forward to what the June box has to offer; if one month is kind of meh, then the next month is usually a lot better.

I always look forward to my Pop Sugar Must Have box every month because it’s always jam-packed with sweet stuff … all full-sized items ranging from makeup to fashion, home decor and even food. This month’s box was pretty cool, but nothing really blew me away, except for the Too Faced eyeshadow palette, which alone made the whole box worth it, especially value-wise (the box costs about $40/month and the Too Faced palette costs $36).

Every Pop Sugar Must Have box comes with a card detailing every item sent out that month and a message from Pop Sugar Founder and Editor-In-Chief LIsa Sugar.

The first item this month was a cute set of dish towels that I really don’t need … but I’m passing them along to my BFF and her awesome roommate because I know they will definitely put them to use.

Fresh Pastry Stand Totally Awesome Tea Towel Set ($18 for two dish towels; etsy.com/shop/freshpastrystand) are a set of dish towels that are handmade from a water-based ink and completely lint-free, each with a bold graphic print.

I couldn’t really get a good photo of these towels, but I did take a photo of the card that came with this month’s Pop Sugar box and it shows how these towels look when they are folded properly, showing the “Totally” and “Awesome” prints (above).

The next item was the “Must Have Food” item of the month: a trail mix from Nature Box created exclusively for Pop Sugar. Pop Sugar Must Have often includes healthy, good-for-you snacks in their monthly boxes and I usually enjoy them. This one was okay … It was kind of bland, but it’s great for extra nutrients and an energy boost mid-day. I think they should have added another fruity element, perhaps dried apricots or something, just to round it out. They kinda skimped on the dried cranberries in this bag and if they added more of them it really would have made the mix a lot yummier.

Nature Box Pop Sugar Must Have Mix ($5 for 4.5 oz.; naturebox.com/popsugar) is a custom trail mix created exclusively for Pop Sugar Must Have. This specific mix isn’t available online, but you can join Nature Box for $19.95/month and receive a bunch of healthy snacks each month. This mix was a “balanced medley” of almonds, soybeans, corn and cranberries and, like all Nature Box snacks, it contains no artificial colors or flavors, no corn syrup and no hydrogenated oils.

Blue Avocado (Eco) Shopper

This super cute shopping bag, created by Lauren Conrad, conveniently folds up into a wallet-sized zipper pouch and then you can unzip it and it will fold out into a full-sized (rather large) shopper (below). The design is super cute and I am loving the mint green color for spring, so I will definitely put this item to use.

Blue Avocado (Eco) Shopper

Blue Avocado (Eco) Shopper ($25; blueavocado.com) is a “collapsible tote” made from upcycled plastic bottles that is “perfect for carrying just about anything.” It’s really big .. so it can definitely carry a lot, and the design is super cute. Plus, it’s made from 50% post-consumer recycled bottles and 1% of profits goes to ocean research and conservation.

Too Faced Natural Eyes Palette Review and photos. Pop Sugar Must Have April 2014 Review + Photos. Photo copyright 2014 Sugarglow Blog: Makeup, skincare, hair products, reviews, subscription boxes, DIY, fashion and more. www.sugarglowbeauty.com.

This palette from Too Faced is awesome and it totally made the whole April Pop Sugar Must Have Box worth it, especially value-wise. I actually was never really a big fan of Too Faced eyeshadows, but these are wonderful and the whole palette includes great shades that are perfect for day-to-night wear.

Too Faced Natural Eyes Palette Review and photos. Pop Sugar Must Have April 2014 Review + Photos. Photo copyright 2014 Sugarglow Blog: Makeup, skincare, hair products, reviews, subscription boxes, DIY, fashion and more. www.sugarglowbeauty.com.

Too Faced Natural Eyes Palette ($36 for nine eyeshadows; toofaced.com) contains nine blendable, neutral eyeshadow shades for “every age and skin tone.” This palette comes with a “Glamour Guide” that shows you how to use the shadows for three different looks and three of the shadows are brand-new Too Faced shades. I was pretty impressed with this palette — pretty neutrals that blend really well and look great for any type of event, school, work, etc. for both day and night.

Graphic Image Pocket Notes notebook and Caldrea Rosewater Driftwood Hand Soap review and photos. Pop Sugar Must Have April 2014 Review + Photos. Photo copyright 2014 Sugarglow Blog: Makeup, skincare, hair products, reviews, subscription boxes, DIY, fashion and more. www.sugarglowbeauty.com.

Graphic Image Pocket Notes (left) and Caldrea Rosewater Driftwood Hand Soap (right)

I’m a writer and I’m constantly taking notes and jotting things down everywhere I go so I love it when I receive a new notebook. I always get excited even buying new notebooks for myself since I’m such a nerd so it’s even more exciting when I get surprised by one in a subscription box. This little notebook is the perfect size for on-the-go note-taking and it has pretty little pages with a silver trim and a ribbon so that you can bookmark whatever page you like. This particular notebook was designed exclusively for Pop Sugar, but you can purchase the same size and personalize it with whatever word, initials or saying you want printed on the front.

Graphic Image Pocket Notes ($20-$36; graphicimage.com) is a take-anywhere notebook with silver edges, acid-free paper and a flexible cover to keep your life in order “the smart and stylish way.” Graphic Image’s notebooks are leather and they can be personalized.

The last product in the April Pop Sugar Must Have box was this beautifully scented hand soap by Caldrea. Caldrea Rosewater Driftwood Hand Soap ($10.50 for 10.8 oz.; caldrea.com) contains a combination of floral aromas and spicy cedar undertones that leaves hands feeling soft, clean and fragrant. This is a gentle yet hardworking soap free of any harmful chemicals. It contains aloe vera gel, olive oil and essential oils to cleanse and condition and it comes in seven different scents (including this “Rosewater Driftwood” scent).

All in all I think that this month’s Pop Sugar Must Have box was pretty good. I loved the Too Faced eyeshadow, which, at $36, is nearly the cost of the entire subscription box for the month, so the value alone is extremely worth it. I loved the gentle Caldrea soap, it smelled amazing, and I loved the little notebook and shopper. I’m passing the dish towels along to my BFF and her roommate because I know they will put them to use, and the Nature Box mix was okay … definitely packed with healthy, good-for-you stuff, but I just found it to be a little too bland for my taste.

Yayyy spring is here and, even though we still have had a few whacky, cold snow days here in New York, the weather has generally been getting warmer and yesterday was especially beautiful! I feel like springtime comes sooo slowly and when it’s finally here we only have about a month (sometimes even less) of actual “spring” weather before the hot days of summer arrive.

With the beautiful spring weather comes my birthday (yippeee!) in April, and, the best part, is a change in wardrobe with all the pretty spring colors that adorn everything from fashion and accessories to makeup, housewares and decorations. I love spring colors and one of my favorites is this pretty mint green.

The mint Marc by Marc Jacobs handbag (above) is what inspired this post, since that is exactly what I want for my birthday (from my wonderful mom). I tried to keep this post as short and sweet as possible — you can click any of the links next to the product names above for more information 🙂

Apparently, over the last year or so, my Influenster score has been steadily increasing thanks to my social media accounts and blog posts, and I had NO idea that I was picked to receive a bunch of VoxBoxes as the e-mails were going to an account that I never use. So, a couple of months ago when I started blogging again, I decided to check on my Influenster account and saw that my score was way up, realized the e-mail account was the one that I never use, then logged into said e-mail to see all of those missed VoxBox opportunities.

SO … with that being said … this is my very first VoxBox and I was super excited to receive it! I love, love, love free stuff and, of course, I love trying out different products (and a great variety of products at that — not just beauty products). The Uni VoxBox is for college-goers and, even though I graduated with my BA a few years ago, I am back in college (sort of), getting my certificate in Paralegal Studies, so I guess this is fitting.

My first VoxBox was pretty cool — a nice mix of products and they were all products that I wouldn’t necessarily buy for myself, so it’s always great to get those things for free (except the tampons, of course … those are a monthly necessity).

The Uni VoxBox came with a card detailing each item in the box and a couple of coupons for some of the products (I didn’t take pictures of those).

The Influenster Uni Voxbox contained:

  • Broadway Nails imPRESS Press-On Manicure ($5.99 for colors, $7.99 for patterns; drugstore.com)
  • NYC New York Color Expert Last Lip Color in Forever Fuchsia ($1.99 for 0.11 oz.; available at most major drugstores)
  • Pilot Acroball Pure White Pen ($4.59 for pack of two, $6.24 for pack of four, $7.49 for pack of five; pilotpen.us)
  • Rimmel London Stay Matte Liquid Mousse Foundation ($4.99 for 1 oz.; ulta.com)
  • Playtex Sport Fresh Balance ($11.49 for pack of 32; drugstore.com)
  • Red Rose REAL TEA Premium Water Enhancer in Blackcurrant Raspberry ($4.99 for 1.62 oz.; redrosetea.com)

The first product was a full-sized foundation from Rimmel London. I hardly use drugstore makeup (I’m not a snob, I just find that these products don’t work as well for me), but I do have to say Rimmel London is one of my more well-liked drugstore brands (and it’s one of the cheaper ones, too). This matte foundation isn’t for me since I have been having dry skin issues this winter, but I’m sure someone I know will get good use out of it.

Rimmel London Stay Matte Liquid Mousse Foundation ($4.99 for 1 oz.ulta.com) is described as having a “lightweight liquid mousse texture” that “leaves skin shineless, yet feels weightless and cakeless.” I love the mousse-y texture of this foundation but I instantly found that it doesn’t work very well on my dry skin. This product is definitely for girls who need a foundation that will combat shine for a more matte finish. This Rimmel London foundation comes in eight different shades.

The next product was a press-on, fast-fix manicure from Broadway Nails. Even though I never, ever get tips or fake nails or anything like that, I actually have used these press-on nails before. They are interesting … they’re fun, I found that they stayed on for a good amount of time (and I am the biggest klutz ever so I can never get nails/nail polish to stay on), and I think they’re cute.

I’m always happy to try out a new color/pattern and I haven’t used this product in well over a year now (at least) so it wasn’t necessarily something I would have bought for myself. However, they obviously look fake so if that’s not the look you’re going for I would definitely stay away.

Broadway Nails imPRESS Press-On Manicure in Lovestruck. There seems to be two different patterns called “Lovestruck” (I’m not sure if one was discontinued or something), so check drugstores for this particular pattern.

Broadway Nails imPRESS Press-On Manicure ($5.99 for colors, $7.99 for patternsdrugstore.com) is described as a press-on manicure that “delivers an instant salon-perfect manicure without the drying time of polish or nail glue.” They come in a bunch of different designs — solids and patterns — with a shiny top coat that doesn’t chip. Your biggest problem with these nails wouldn’t be if they fell off, but Broadway Nails includes a bunch of extra nails that you can use as replacements if one does fall off.

Even with my clumsy self I found that these stayed on (replacing a few here and there) for about 5 days. You can remove them by gently peeling them off or applying nail polish remover around the edges and then peeling (I never had a problem taking them off). If you’re into this kind of thing, I think these are a great cheap alternative for when you need a fast fix of pretty nails.

NYC New York Color Expert Last Lip Color in Forever Fuchsia review and photos. Influenster Uni VoxBox Review + Photos. Photo copyright 2014 Sugarglow Blog: Makeup, skincare, hair products, reviews, subscription boxes, DIY, fashion and more. www.sugarglowbeauty.com.

Now here’s a product I wouldn’t buy for myself, but I am definitely going to try this one out. The funny thing is that I swatched it on my hand last night and it STILL hasn’t come off — after washing my hands repeatedly and taking a shower already. I haven’t tried it on my lips yet but, since my lips are dry from the winter weather, I have a feeling I’m going to need to layer this with a balm or gloss. The color is a fun, bright, bright pink. The photo of the swatch didn’t come out as bright as I wanted it to, so I decided not to post it.

NYC New York Color Expert Last Lip Color in Forever Fuchsia ($1.99 for 0.11 oz.; available at most major drugstores) is NYC’s newest lip formula that delivers “intense amplified color and shine that lasts up to six hours.” it is described as a moisturizing formula that “glides on easily for a silky, smooth, velvety finish” and it comes in 20(!) different colors. For just $1.99 you really can’t go wrong trying this lipstick out … I’m definitely going to try this out soon on a soft makeup day with a pop of (hot pink!) color on my lips.

Pilot Acroball Pure White Pen and Red Rose REAL TEA Premium Water Enhancer review and photos. Influenster Uni VoxBox Review + Photos. Photo copyright 2014 Sugarglow Blog: Makeup, skincare, hair products, reviews, subscription boxes, DIY, fashion and more. www.sugarglowbeauty.com.

I lovessss me a good pen — I am constantly writing things down all day long and I go through pens like bottles of water (especially on days I have class for four hours). I love new pens and notebooks (I’m a little nerd) so this item made me happy. 🙂

Pilot Acroball Pure White Pen ($4.59 for pack of two, $6.24 for pack of four, $7.49 for pack of fivepilotpen.us) features “Spring Pantone-inspired color block grips on a glossy white barrel,” with the vibrant color of gel and the quick-drying benefits of ballpoint ink. These pens look sleek and write amazingly well with a thin point. They are also really comfortable to hold, so I’ll probably be switching over to this pen for those intense note-writing 3-4 hour classes I have throughout the week (my TD Bank pen has proved to be a bit painful during these long periods of time — sorry, TD Bank!).

The next product was one of those new-fangled water enhancer thingys where you change the taste of your water with one little bottle. I like the fact that this enhancer contains real brewed tea and, even though it doesn’t taste the greatest (it has that fake sweetener taste — even though it does include real cane sugar), I’m hoping that some of the amazing benefits of tea have been preserved in this little bottle.

Red Rose REAL TEA Premium Water Enhancer in Blackcurrant Raspberry ($4.99 for 1.62 oz.redrosetea.com) contains no dyes or coloring and it’s made from real brewed tea. This little bottle contains 24 servings (one squeeze for each 8-oz. glass of water), only five calories, it is “lightly sweetened,” gluten-free and it contains caffeine (which some people may not want — I’m happy about this though!).

Playtex Sport Fresh Balance review and photos. Influenster Uni VoxBox Review + Photos. Photo copyright 2014 Sugarglow Blog: Makeup, skincare, hair products, reviews, subscription boxes, DIY, fashion and more. www.sugarglowbeauty.com.

And the very last product in the Influenster Uni VoxBox was something every college girl (or otherwise) most certainly needs — a box of Playtex’s new Sport Fresh Balance tampons! Playtex Sport Fresh Balance ($11.49 for pack of 32drugstore.com) are designed to “neutralize odors for ultimate freshness on and off the field.” They are made with a 360-degree design for “Sport Level Protection” and come in a bunch of different sizes for different needs. Ahhh, tampons. Always a necessity. Thanks, Influenster.

Pop Sugar Must Have is usually the subscription box that I look forward to the most each month since it contains all full-sized items ranging from makeup to fashion to lifestyle and even food and the value of the items in the box always exceeds the $40/month price. Some months are better than others and I found this month’s box to be a little on the meh side, especially compared to February’s box (which I loved). Either way, this month enabled me to discover an awesome serum from Jurlique and a cute good luck charm necklace that I’ve been wearing a lot already.

Pop Sugar Must Have arrives with a larger-than-average box each month to hold all of the awesomely full-sized items and it comes with a card that details every product featured that month.

The “Must Have Fashion” item this month was this blue ikat print scarf from Brokedown. Brokedown Blue Ikat Scarf ($72; brokedownclothing.com) is a soft and lightweight “easy to wear” scarf that was originally designed exclusively for Pop Sugar subscribers (that’s what it said on the card). The Brokedown website has it available to buy right now so I guess it’s a newer item. I’m not really that crazy about this color, it’s a little too Civil War-y for my wardrobe, but, at $72, I’m really not going to complain. If I can’t make it work I’m sure my mom or one of my friends will find it useful.

Jurlique Herbal Recovery Advanced Serum Review and Photos. Pop Sugar Must Have March 2014 Review + Photos. Monthly beauty, fashion, lifestyle subscription box review. The “Must Have Beauty” item this month, and my personal favorite item, was this awesome face serum from Jurlique. Jurlique Herbal Recovery Advanced Serum ($54 for 1 oz.; jurlique.com) is a “youth defense concentrate serum” that features a “propriety active complex” — Naturadiance PB18+ which helps reduce the appearance of fine lines, helps increase elasticity, restores radiance and increases hydration.

This serum is also formulated with antioxidants to “create a natural defense shield to help protect against environmental aggressors” and leaves skin “visibly glowing, hydrated and younger-looking.” I have had the worst case of dry skin this winter and this serum does a great job at keeping my skin hydrated and all-around better looking all day.

The second “Must Have Fashion” item this month was a cute little lucky horseshoe necklace. Dogeared Lucky Horseshoe Make A Wish Necklace ($30; dogeared.com) is a gold-dipped horseshoe charm on a tobacco-colored silk thread. The idea is that the gold charm will “lock in any good luck that comes your way” and invites good fortune into your life. I’m all about lucky charms and this simple necklace goes with anything. I’ve been layering it with another gold charm necklace pretty much every other day since I got it.

Baublebar Elephant Tree Ring review and photos. Pop Sugar Must Have March 2014 Review + Photos. Monthly beauty, fashion, lifestyle subscription box review. The “Must Have Home” item this month was this funny little elephant ring tree. I actually just got a new jewelry/ring tree on sale at Target, but I have a lot of jewelry so I will definitely be putting this little guy to use. It’s also very sleek looking and pretty much goes with anything, so that’s a plus. BaubleBar Elephant Ring Tree ($12; baublebar.com) is described as a “charming BaubleBar accessory” that will make sure you always keep track of your rings and adds some “pizzazz” (funny word) to your side table or vanity.

This item is currently sold out on the BaubleBar website, but you can get on the wait list to score one. BaubleBar also makes a bunch of other cute little ring trees (the bunny rabbit is my favorite) — it seems like they are all sold out for now (maybe they’re new items?), but they all have a wait list option so they will definitely be available sometime soon.

Sometimes Pop Sugar includes a “Must Have Fitness” item in their monthly box and this month they sent out this hot pink mini fitness ball, perfect a bunch of different kinds of exercises. ActiveForever Fusion Exercise Ball ($9.95; activeforever.com) is described as a “lightweight and portable mini exercise ball,” the standard 7.5″ desired for Pilates and isometrics, abdominal work and “every other type of conditioning, balance training and relaxation exercise you can imagine.” This ball will allow you to achieve a full-body workout and improve your posture, and it provides “an unstable base of support, designed to activate your deepest stabilizing muscles and increase your workout productivity.”

Harvest Snaps Snapea Crisps and Nature's Bakery All-Natural Strawberry Fig Bars review and photos. Pop Sugar Must Have March 2014 Review + Photos. Monthly beauty, fashion, lifestyle subscription box review. The last two items in the March Pop Sugar Must Have box were these “Must Have Food” items. The Harvest Snaps Lightly Salted Snapea Crisps (~$2-4 for 3.3 oz.; harvestsnaps.com) are crunchy, baked green pea crisps with a little bit of salt to “bring out the flavor” that are a healthy alternative to the usual potato chips. They have less fat and sodium and more fiber than potato chips, higher levels of protein and vitamin B, a lower glycemic index and are gluten-free. They’re actually not that bad, they are super crunchy in a good way and even my dad, who hates “healthy” snacks, likes these.

Nature’s Bakery All-Natural Strawberry Fig Bars (~$2-3; naturesbakery.com) are all-natural, cholesterol-free, dairy-free and kosher fig bars made with minimally-processed ingredients. I can’t find this specific flavor on the Nature’s Bakery website, but it was definitely yummy and pretty filling, too. If I find these bars in the store I am definitely going to pick them up. I ate it as soon as I opened up the March Pop Sugar Must Have box (I was pretty hungry), so that’s why I could only take a photo of the wrapper. 🙂

I always get super excited when my Pop Sugar Must Have box arrives on my doorstep. This is definitely one of the more pricey monthly subscription boxes at $39.95/month (a little cheaper if you choose any of the multiple month subscriptions), but the value of the items in the box always exceeds the subscription price by a lot. This month’s box would have cost about $122 if you purchased all of the items separately, so it’s really an awesome deal.

The idea behind this subscription service is that Pop Sugar sends out “Must Haves” for the month, including beauty, fashion, food, home, reading and more. It’s like an “everything” subscription, I guess you would call it a “lifestyle” subscription, that features pretty awesome stuff every month. Every person gets the same exact box each month, and the content of the box is pretty much a surprise until it arrives on your doorstep.

The mystery factor can lend itself to a bit of disappointment, since you don’t know what you’re paying for until you receive it, but if you understand how these boxes work, and how every box can’t possibly have something you absolutely love every single time, then you should enjoy it. Besides, they send out enough items that if you’re really disappointed in every single one then perhaps Pop Sugar Must Have isn’t the box for you.

Pop Sugar Must Have january 2014 review + photos. Monthly beauty and lifestyle subscription box review. Photo copyright 2014 Sugarglow Blog: Makeup, skincare, hair products, reviews, subscription boxes, DIY, fashion and more. www.sugarglowbeauty.com.
This amazing, wondrous, where-have-you-been-all-my-life?, little tube was my absolute favorite item in this month’s box and probably the best item I have ever received in any of Pop Sugar’s Must Have boxes or any subscription box ever. Yes, I really mean it. I honestly haven’t read many reviews about this stuff yet so I’m not sure what other people thought of it but I can say that it worked SO well for me and my skin type and I am so shocked that I found a product in a subscription box that has instantly become a favorite and staple in my beauty routine.

I really don’t go into subscription boxes with high expectations and I definitely don’t expect to love each item I receive; as I said before, many subscription boxes are a “mystery” and I have no idea what I’m going to receive, I don’t really get to choose what I want, and boxes like Pop Sugar that send out the same items to every subscriber have to appeal to a huge range of women with different skin types, skin/hair/eye colors, different interests and different makeup/beauty/fashion needs in general.

So, with all of these facts taken into consideration, I am seriously so surprised that I found this cleansing mask and I can’t say enough how much I LOVE it. Malin + Goetz Detox Face Mask ($40 for 4 oz.; Malinandgoetz.com) is like one of those multi-tasking products that is also wonderful for lazy girls (like me) and provides some serious, NOTICEABLE, results.

I will probably review this product in a post of its own since I love it so much, but, for now, I’m going to rave a little more about it in this post right here. I’m 26 years old now and I have been breaking out more than I ever have my entire life. I think my new puppy might be part of the reason (hugging and cuddling him and rubbing my entire head on his face … he is so cute), especially since my mom is allergic to dog fur. I am not allergic per se, but I think that my skin might not be able to handle anything on his fur (like, after he rolls around outside … should have been more obvious to me), so I think my skin reacts by breaking out a little bit. Either way, I am NOT happy with it.

What I am happy with (ecstatic, even), is that Malin & Goetz’s Detox Face Mask almost instantly cleared up my tiny blemishes upon first use of the product. You don’t need to wet your face before applying (which is perfect for lazy/late nights), you just apply a layer to your skin, let the product oxidize and do its job (it’s so cool to watch the bubbles form up and then dissipate), and then either rinse off or pat off with a warm washcloth.

This product works in multiple ways for people with different skin types; it uses antioxidants and vitamins to seal in hydration, it gets deep into pores and clears out all the icky stuff, and it even brightens skin. You can use it for deep cleansing and hydration, or if you have oiler skin you can use it for night-time deep cleansing and oil control. Read the instructions because you apply it and take it off differently for each one of its different uses.

After trying so many different products to calm the recent breakouts on my face, and finding that most of the products hardly worked, I was so, so happy to find that this cleansing mask worked almost instantly. I figure that any beauty product has to be pretty powerful if I see near-instant results. I’m not sure how it would work for someone with skin different than mine, but it says it’s supposed to work with every different skin type. Either way, I personally think this stuff is awesome and I will be buying it every single time my bottle runs out.

The next product in this month’s Pop Sugar Must Have box were these cute little tech gloves by Jack + Lucy. I can’t seem to find these gloves anywhere online to buy them on their own, but Liz over at My Subscription Addiction (one of my favorite blogs) estimated the value of the gloves to be around $25.

These gloves are cute, practical, in a color that goes with everything, and works with touch-screen phones or tablets thanks to their special finger panels. I heard that a lot of people weren’t too happy with these gloves because they live in warm weather regions, and that I can totally understand, but for me they are awesome in New York’s single-digit weather this week. I can also always use another pair of gloves since I constantly lose the ones I already have, which is why I never spend much money on gloves. Good thing I got these for free (sort of).

Pop Sugar usually includes a “Must Have Food” in their monthly boxes (actually, it might even be included in every box, but I’m not 100% sure), and I almost always enjoy the food choice they include. For example, in December everyone received Ghirardelli chocolate squares which were yummy and for Halloween everyone received a version of a marshmallow square with Halloween sprinkles. I’m actually excited to see what they include this February, hoping for a Valentine’s Day candy theme to satisfy my sweet tooth.

Besides sweets, Pop Sugar often sends out other treats, like this month’s Pipcorn. PipSnacks White Truffle Pipcorn ($18 for three 4.5-oz. bags; ManyKitchens.com) is an all-natural, gluten-free, whole grain mini popcorn in a yummy white truffle flavor. I love truffle anything, so I enjoyed the flavor, but I didn’t quite get the mini popcorn thing. The whole idea is to make popcorn that’s easier to eat/doesn’t get stuck in your teeth but I actually found that this was kind of harder to eat and the mini kernels got stuck in my teeth more than regular popcorn would. Also, sizing down on popcorn pieces leaves you without that fluffy popcorn feeling — these kinda tasted like I was snacking on something small and non-puffy like nuts or something. Either way, it’s cool to try a full-sized bag like this.

The Juice Generation by Eric Helms. Pop Sugar Must Have january 2014 review + photos. Monthly beauty and lifestyle subscription box review. Photo copyright 2014 Sugarglow Blog: Makeup, skincare, hair products, reviews, subscription boxes, DIY, fashion and more. www.sugarglowbeauty.com.

I love when Pop Sugar includes books in their monthly Must Have boxes, whether they be regular fiction/non-fiction books or recipe books … any kind of book is fine with me. I am a huge book nerd, so I was happy to see some sort of book in this month’s box.

I have to say I never really jump on these trendy diet bandwagons, especially juicing. I don’t even think that detox juicing is that good for your body in the long-run, but I haven’t done enough research myself to come to a serious conclusion (and I do realize that the detox thing is only a part of this whole juicing craze). Either way, The Juice Generation by Eric Helms ($15.93 on Amazon, $20 at most other retailers; Amazon.com) contains enough regular smoothie recipes for me to find it useful. I wouldn’t buy this book myself, but it’s always great to get a new recipe book for free (well, sort of … as part of the nearly $40/month I spend on the Pop Sugar Must Have box).

This book contains “100 Recipes for Fresh Juices and Superfood Smoothies” (which is also the book’s subtitle), as well as tips and information on different super-foods. I will definitely be trying out some of the smoothie recipes soon and sharing the finished products here on my blog.

Revlon by Marchesa Nail Files. Pop Sugar Must Have january 2014 review + photos. Monthly beauty and lifestyle subscription box review. Photo copyright 2014 Sugarglow Blog: Makeup, skincare, hair products, reviews, subscription boxes, DIY, fashion and more. www.sugarglowbeauty.com.
The other “Must Have Beauty” item this month were these cute mini nail files from Revlon. Revlon by Marchesa Box O’Files ($3.49 for pack of six nail files; Target.com) are brand-new, easily portable, high-quality nail files. I can’t find them anywhere online to purchase but Target’s website has a listing for them, which says they are “not sold online,” so they must be available in Target stores.

They come in three different pretty patterns (the one I received is shown in the photo) and I found that they actually work quite well, judging from the one time I have used them so far. I can always use more nail files as mine are constantly worn down and/or get lost, so this was a good addition to the Must Have box for me.

And the last item from this month’s box is this cute stand-up desk calendar. Rifle Paper Co. 2014 Flip Around the World Desk Calendar ($16 for one 6″ x 7.5″ calendar; RiflePaperCo.com) contains 12 “charming illustrations” of international cities like New York, Paris and Istanbul. It’s a cute little addition to my desk, and another one of those items that I wouldn’t necessarily buy for myself, but I will make use out of, so I’m glad it appeared in a monthly subscription box.

All in all I enjoyed this month’s Must Have box. I pretty much enjoy every Pop Sugar Must Have box since they send out a bunch of different products which are always “full-sized” products, so it’s a nice change of pace from some of the other boxes I subscribe to where I would mostly receive small or deluxe-sized sample items.

Pop Sugar Must Have costs $39.99 per month if you choose the month-to-month payment option. The price-per-month is lowered if you buy in bulk (i.e. 3, 6 or 12-month subscriptions).
