I’m posting this October Julep Maven review a little late (I got my box a couple weeks ago) — but, even though it’s late, it’s kind of sort of appropriate for today since today is the first day of the November Maven collection reveal. I just finished editing my Maven box for next month and saw some really sweet nail shades and other goodies (like the Holiday collection sneak peek) … but for this post I’m still focused on the October box, which I absolutely loved!

Julep Nail Color in (from top to bottom): Laurel, Anya and Colton

First up are the nail shades that I chose with my October Maven box:

Julep Nail Color in “Laurel”

Julep Nail Color in Laurel ($14 or $11.20 for Maven subscribers, 0.27 oz.; julep.com): Described as a “Raven feather silk.” I really liked this color, it’s like a shimmery black-ish color, but it looks almost dark gray because of the silver-y shimmer. The shimmer is also kind of muted so when you first look at the nail you might not even realize it’s a shimmer color. This is the only shade this month that I took a photo of (above), although this photo doesn’t really do this color justice. I’m going to start taking nail color swatches for all Julep Maven boxes from now on!

Julep Nail Color in Anya ($14 or $11.20 for Maven subscribers, 0.27 oz.; julep.com): Described as a “Climbing ivy crème.” I’m not gonna lie — I got this color mainly for the name, because of Anya from the Buffyverse 😀 But I also really love this ivy-green shade, it’s perfect for fall and it has a gorgeous crème finish.

Julep Nail Color in Colton ($10 special right now, 0.27 oz.; julep.com): Described as a “Black iris crème.” This shade is also really pretty but I think it’s more of a deep purple than a black. Either way it’s a super dark and rich shade, also perfect for the fall.

Julep Your Happy Look Pore-Minimizing Blush in “Rosewood”

This blush was probably my favorite product in the October Maven box. I received it in “Rosewood,” a new shade in Julep’s pore-minimizing blush line and I am totally obsessed with it. This color is a mauve-ish rose shade, which is a bit darker than most of my usual blushes (which is one of the reasons why I love it so much), and It’s also perfect for this time of year.

Julep Your Happy Look Pore-Minimizing Blush ($24 or $19.20 for Mavens, 0.26 oz.; julep.com): A “groundbreaking blush” that “minimizes complexion imperfections” with light-diffusing diamond powder and vitamin B6. This blush formula contains Julep’s “Power Cell Complex”, Rosehip seed oil to deliver essential nutrients and green coffee bean oil to invigorate skin and promote cell turnover. This blush is pretty generously pigmented and it blends very well. I have to say, once again, that I absolutely love this shade — it looks wonderful and has a perfect hint of subtle shimmer.

Julep Eyeshadow 101 Crème-to-Powder Eyeshadow Stick in “Taupe Shimmer”

I was pretty surprised at how much I also loved this eyeshadow stick that Julep debuted this month. I’m usually not a huge fan of eyeshadow sticks and I never have much faith in cream shadows other than my tried-and-true favorites, but this crème-to-powder formula was pretty impressive. I love how easy it is to use this shadow stick and the best part is that it blended beautifully with the shimmery powder shadows I tried it out with. It lasted for my whole work day, but my eye makeup always seems to last extremely well when I apply my Smashbox 24 Hour Photo Finish Shadow Primer first (my favorite).

Julep Eyeshadow 101 Crème-to-Powder Eyeshadow Stick in “Taupe Shimmer”

Julep Eyeshadow 101 Crème-to-Powder Eyeshadow Stick ($18 or $14.40 for Maven subscribers, 0.04 oz.; julep.com): A two-in-one crème-to-powder shadow and eyeshadow smudger. This “crease-proof, stay-all-day” shadow is formulated with skin-smoothing vitamins C and E and it blends easily before setting to a long-lasting finish. It is available in six different shades.

Julep Nail Files (top) and Halloween nail stickers (bottom)

These last two items were both add-ons that I chose for my October Maven box (the eyeshadow stick was the third add-on that I chose this month). I usually choose three add-ons every month because Julep will send you a free surprise every time you pick three or more add-ons with your Maven box. This month I received one of the nail polishes (that I wrote about above) as a free gift — I think it was the “Colton” shade, but I’m not 100% sure.

But anyway, I really needed good nail files so I decided to go with this nail file trio as one of my add-ons. I don’t know why but it has been SO extremely hard for me to find good nail files lately. I’ve only been able to find ones that do a pretty crappy job at filing and I end up throwing them away after just a few uses. So anyway, I am really glad I added these Julep files to my October Maven box because, as simple as they are, they definitely work well and get the job done. Totally worth it. I don’t see these files available anywhere on Julep’s website but I do see them every month when I pick out my Maven box as available add-ons, so I think the only way to get these specific files is to add them on to your monthly Maven box.

The last product this month were this super cool neon yellow Halloween nail stickers. These are also not available for regular purchase on the Julep website, but Julep usually comes out with different nail wraps and stickers every month or so during the Maven reveal. I’m going to try these out next week for Halloween and I’m sure I will be Instagramming them once they’re on my nails 🙂

Subscription Box Breakdown:

I loved my October Julep Maven box. I am seriously obsessed with this blush shade and how awesomely blendable it is as well as the eyeshadow stick, which is also awesomely blendable and has great staying power. I’m loving all three of the nail colors I received this month, the nail files are great and I can’t wait to try out the Halloween nail stickers. This was definitely one of my favorite Maven boxes.

Pricing & Availability:

Julep Maven is a monthly beauty and nail polish subscription service that costs $24.99 per month with the option to upgrade your box for a higher cost. To subscribe click here, or head over to Julep.com for more information.

Smashbox On The Rocks Photo Op Eye Shadow Palette

I picked up this new shadow palette by Smashbox a couple of months ago and I am (finally!) getting around to reviewing it now. I really have soooo many posts to write up, piles of makeup sitting on my floor and lots of other photos and goodies to blog about — I have lots and lots of free time over the next few days (YAY!), so I’m going to try to catch up on blogging as much as I can!

This is only my second month of receiving Beauty Box Five because I finally decided (two months ago) that the price of $12/month is totally worth it and I love having a new beauty subscription arrive on my doorstep! I have been subscribed to all of the other boxes I receive for at least a year now, so BB5 is still new and fresh and exciting (well, all of them are exciting, really, I just can’t say no to a surprise package of goodies every month).

Beauty Box Five April 2014 Review + Photos: Monthly Beauty Subscription Box. Photo copyright 2014 Sugarglow Blog: Makeup, skincare, hair products, reviews, subscription boxes, DIY, fashion and more. www.sugarglowbeauty.com.

This subscription box features a little bit more affordable (cheaper) makeup and beauty products, and I love the fact that they send out lots of full-sized items. They send out five products each month, ranging from makeup to skin care to hair care, as well as beauty items and accessories (all in a cute little turquoise box).

Each month, items are sent out based on a theme (like most of the other box subscriptions), and each box includes a card detailing the products sent out that month. This month’s theme was “Shades of Beauty,” simple products for a pretty beauty routine.

Jergens Natural Glow - Three Days to Glow Moisturizer. Beauty Box Five April 2014 Review + Photos: Monthly Beauty Subscription Box. Photo copyright 2014 Sugarglow Blog: Makeup, skincare, hair products, reviews, subscription boxes, DIY, fashion and more. www.sugarglowbeauty.com.

Jergens Natural Glow – 3 Days to Glow Moisturizer

I have been meaning to try out the new Jergens 3 Days to Glow formula so I was happy to see this sample in this month’s Beauty Box Five. Also, it’s nice that they sent out samples for three whole days (instead of just one single packet) so you can really test out the “Three Days” claim. I haven’t used it yet, but I am planning to use it this week (spring is finally here!).

Jergens Natural Glow 3 Days to Glow Moisturizer ($9.99 for 4 oz.; ulta.com) is described as a self-tanning moisturizer that “creates a color that’s gradual, flawless and captivating.” You can “jump-start your color and achieve a skin tone one full shade darker” in just three days. This moisturizer provides fast, natural-looking color and has no sunless tanning odor.

Blum Naturals All-Purpose Cleansing Wipes

It seems like every time I run out of a beauty product that I need and use every day it magically appears in a monthly subscription box, just like these cleansing wipes. I was kind of hoping to use these as full face makeup-cleansing wipes, but these are “mini wipes” and they don’t really work exactly like how I need them to work, so I’m still going to have to pick up another set of full-sized makeup wipes when I go to the store. But, either way, these are good for removing eye makeup and they are super cute (and portable!).

Blum Naturals All-Purpose Cleansing Wipes ($7.50 for set of three containers with 30 wipes in each; beautybox5shop.com) are super affordable — 90 wipes for under $8! There was only one container that came in the April Beauty Box Five box and I received the “Citrus Scent.” These wipes are infused with aloe vera, super convenient (especially for travelling purposes) and they are “just the right size to remove eye makeup or correct minor cosmetic mistakes.” They are hypo-allergenic, paraben-free and cruelty-free.

Bonne Bell Lip Definer and BH Cosmetics California Collection eyeshadow palette review and photos. Beauty Box Five April 2014 Review + Photos: Monthly Beauty Subscription Box. Bonne Bell Lip Definer (top) and BH Cosmetics California Collection Eyeshadow Trio

Wow, I haven’t used Bonne Bell anything since being obsessed with Lip Smackers when I was little, so I was pretty surprised to see this lip liner in my April BB5. I can’t seem to find this product anywhere for sale online, but I’m sure that it’s available in any drugstore that sells Bonne Bell cosmetics. This liner is actually not bad, and I never really buy lip liners for myself so I am always happy to receive one in a subscription box. I received this liner in the “Apple Cider” color, which goes perfectly with the Nicka K lipstick (below).

Bonne Bell Lip Definer ($3.95 for 0.04 oz.; local drugstores) is described as a liner that’s “perfect for a precise pout,” keeping lipstick from feathering and it also “makes for a lovely natural look when paired with a clear gloss.”

BH Cosmetics Hollywood Eyeshadow Trio

I actually received this same mini palette in an Ipsy Glam Bag months ago, but I think I gave it away to a friend so I’m going to try to use it this time around. The above photo didn’t come out too great — the purple color is a pretty, bright, yet deep, grape color. This is a small sample of the regular BH Cosmetics Eyeshadow and Blush Palette, which comes with 16 eyeshadows and four face powders. The California Collection comes in three versions: Hollywood, Malibu and San Francisco. I received the “Hollywood” palette (same one as what I received in the Ipsy bag).

BH Cosmetics California Collection Eyeshadow Palette ($18.95 for 16 eyeshadows and four face powders; beautybox5shop.com) is described as a “vibrant palette inspired by striking celebrity looks from the red carpet.” Each set contains “feminine blushes, bright shadows and vampy reds” and the mini “Hollywood” palette that I received contains a deep purple, shimmery light brown and shimmery golden shade.

Nicka K New York Hydro Lipstick review and photos. Beauty Box Five April 2014 Review + Photos: Monthly Beauty Subscription Box.

Nicka K New York Hydro Lipstick in “Concerto”

This was the product I was most impressed with this month. This lipstick from Nicka K New York goes on very smooth and it is hydrating, which is just what I need for my chapped lips. At just $5 a pop, this lipstick is super affordable and the packaging is so sleek and pretty for such a low price. I was pretty shocked. I’m not saying it’s the best lipstick ever but it’s great, especially for the price, and it looks so nice. I received this product in “Concerto,” which is a light, shimmery, cider-y color. I never wear reds and this really isn’t very red at all, it actually looks very nice when I wear it.

Nicka K New York Hydro Lipstick ($4.99 for 0.12 oz.; beautybox5shop.com) is described as a “lipstick junkie-approved,” hydrating and paraben-free lipstick that “feels light but delivers luscious, full-bodied color that lasts through your first cup of coffee.” To make sure your lipstick doesn’t budge, Beauty Box Five suggests you apply your first layer of color, then use a blending brush to add translucent powder, pressing it in until your lips are mattified, and then apply your second layer of lipstick.

Overall I was very happy with my second Beauty Box Five and I think it’s so worth it to receive almost all full-sized products for only $12. I love the Nicka K lipstick and the Bonne Bell liner matches it perfectly (the liner is also really not bad at all), and the mini cleansing wipes are all-natural and super convenient. I’m sure I’ll put the mini eyeshadow palette to use and if I get good results from the Jergens lotion packets I’m definitely going to buy the full-sized tube.

Smashbox Summer 2014: The Santigold Collection [Photo: Smashbox.com]

I know Smashbox debuted their new summer collection about a month ago, but the products have finally hit shelves so I just wanted to do a post going over all the awesomeness that is their new Santigolden Age Collection.

The Santigolden Age Collection was created by artist Santigold, who fused unexpected vivid colors and elements into the collection the same way she does regularly with her amazing fashion sense and all-around artistic boldness. This exclusive collection is influenced by Santigold’s “strong creative sense of collage,” with a “vivid and playful” color palette that is really unlike any beauty collection I have seen recently.

The whole collection is gorgeous and I can’t wait to get my hands on those eyeliner pencils. Besides the fact that the colors are amazing and there are a bunch of different products to choose from (from shadows to liners to lipgloss to nail stickers and even a lipstick ring), the artwork and packaging design is really over-the-top beautiful, so these items will definitely be some great collectors’ pieces.

The new Smashbox Santigolden Age Collection for the summer contains five different items, four of which have two different color combinations:

Apocalypse Now. [Photo: Smashbox.com]

Smashbox The Santigolden Age Eye Shadow Collage ($36 for 0.17 oz.; smashbox.com) is described as a “one-of-a-kind collaged and mirrored palette with five dramatic wet-to-dry eyeshadows.”

Apocalypse Now” (above) consists of a shimmery oyster shade, shimmery tea, sparkling pewter, matte black and bright golden orange.

Double-Ended Limitless Liner. [Photo: Smashbox.com]

My favorite items in the collection are these gorgeous, versatile, bold eyeliners. The Smashbox Santigolden Age Double-Ended Limitless Liner ($24 for two 0.02-oz. pencilssmashbox.com) is described as a “double-ended eyeliner with eight-hour staying power and limitless possibilities.”

There are two different liner pencils in the new collection with two different shades on each one: Yellow Dwarf/Green Martian (a bright yellow and a mint green — on the left of the photo above); and Azurite is Never Wrong/El Dorado (a bright azure blue and earthy gold — on the right of the photo).

Be Legendary Lipgloss in All Gold E’rything (left) and Hot Lava (right). [Photo: Smashbox.com]

The next two products are Smashbox’s Be Legendary lipgloss formula in two very “Santigolden” shades. Smashbox The Santigolden Age Be Legendary Gloss ($20 for 0.20 oz.; smashbox.com) is described as “a vibrant, glassy-finish gloss hand-picked by artist Santigold.”

All Gold E’rything” is described as a “sheer copper sparkle” and “Hot Lava” is described as a “sheer red-orange.” I’m loving the gold color so I will definitely be picking that one up (red is not really my thing, even though this red looks lovely).

Nail Polish Art Strips in “Serpent Charmer” (left) and “The Eye of the Beholder” (right). [Photo: Smashbox.com]

These sweeeet nail polish stickers come with two different designs in one pack and I have a feeling they will work pretty well, since they’re made by Smashbox (I usually have such a problem with these things). Smashbox The Santigolden Age Nail Polish Art Strips ($22 for set of two different patterns; smashbox.com) are described as “one-of-a-kind, mistake-proof nail strips designed by artist Santigold,” who is known for her collage art and strong creative sense, which influenced the whole collection’s “vivid and playful color range.”

Serpent Charmer” (left) is a black snake pattern on what looks like a glittery gold background; and “The Eye of the Beholder” (right) is a creepy-cool (and yet pretty at the same time) silver eye design on a black background. I love the design and colors of the black eye pattern strips and, even though I’m not usually into snake-print anything, the gold one is pretty cool. I could definitely rock these.

Be Legendary Lipstick Ring in “Still Kickin.” [Photo: Smashbox.com]

The last product in the collection is a jewelry-and-makeup-in-one deal. This is a really pretty lipstick ring that is actually not tacky (in my opinion). I usually find these things to be either childish (‘cuz they’re usually for kids) or just tacky-looking. These are actually really nice.

Smashbox The Santigolden Age Be Legendary Lipstick Ring ($49 for one ring in size 8; smashbox.com) is described as “a collectible snake ring that holds a limited-edition shade of Be Legendary Lipstick inside.” This is the only product in the collection that comes in just one shade, but it’s a pretty “golden reddish coral.” I’m definitely picking this one up too.

I might as well just get the whole collection at this point (maybe just one eyeshadow shade, though, and just the gold lipgloss, not the red one). This collection is gorgeous and I usually don’t do posts as previews for new beauty collections, especially when I haven’t even bought the collection myself yet (using the official photos), but this one was way too pretty to pass up.

I just recently discovered Beauty.com and the (super easy) power of buying beauty products with PayPal, so I’ve been doing a lot of shopping through this website and mini-“hauls” such as this one over the last few months. I don’t really consider this a haul … just a few new products, and I’m going to review each one of these products separately in a post of their own, but I did want to write about the free Daryl K. sample bag that Beauty.com is currently sending out with any order over $100.

I just can’t get over how awesome the free sample bags are from this website … they are way better as far as value goes than most of the other “free samples with purchase” gifts I have received after ordering from other beauty retailers, both in-store and online.

Daryl K. Sample Bag Makeup Case — Free Gift With A $100+ Beauty.com Purchase

This is the second sample bag I have received with a Beauty.com order and both of them included an awesomely oversized makeup bag jam-packed with amazing deluxe-sized samples from some of my favorite beauty brands (hardly any single-use packets here). I’m not crazy about the Daryl K. design on this particular makeup bag (above), but it’s such a great size that I will totally put it to use either for storage or for travel. The actual samples contained in the bag are also awesome and I would definitely consider the majority of them to be more travel-size than sample-size.

I’m just going to provide an overview here of the products I bought + the products in the free sample bag and then I’m going to do individual reviews of my full-sized purchases in posts of their own 🙂

Stila Sweet Treat Bronzing Powder

I’ve been meaning to get this cute little bronzer from Stila since I first saw it in the stores a few weeks ago and I’m so glad I finally got it. The colors are great and buildable — I can wear this as light or as dark as I want it, plus the hint of peachy shimmer gives it a little more of a unique identity than your average bronzing powder. Plus, at only $14, it’s SUPER cheap … especially by Stila and “prestige beauty” standards.

Stila Sweet Treat Bronzing Powder ($14 for 0.35 oz.; beauty.com) is a trio of matte and shimmery bronzers, plus a pop of peach, to “deliver a luminous, kissed-by-the-sun glow.” The nine little bronzer “tiles” are formed together to look like a cute chocolate bar. This is the perfect beauty gift for Valentine’s Day, but I hope Stila decides to keep it around all year round because the colors work so well together, especially for my skin. I really like this product a lot better than I thought I would.

I’ve also been meaning to get this new lip balm/tint from Too Faced since it recently came out, so I decided to get it in the pretty coral color, “Coral Pop,” with my Beauty.com mini “haul.” I do have to say — this product takes some getting used to. It stings a lot when you apply it, the sign that it’s “working” (plumping your lips and whatnot), but my problem is that my super dry winter lips are pretty chapped, so this stuff mustttt be applied over a Chapstick or similar lip balm to cut down on the extra sting. I only tried this out once since I got it, and my lips have healed significantly since then, so I’m definitely going to try it out again tomorrow.

Too Faced Lip Injection Color Bomb in Coral Pop

Too Faced Lip Injection Color Bomb ($21 for 0.1 oz.; beauty.com) is described as an “ultra-conditioning balm” that combines Too Faced’s best-selling Lip Injection plumping and blood vessel dilating technology with a satin color stain. This lip balm comes in six shades and it is formulated with Vitamins A, C and E, as well as mango butter for extra moisture and a “softer, smoother, plumper pout.”

Urban Decay Naked Lip Gloss in Streak

Another new product on the beauty market that I had been meaning to try is the amazing new Naked lipgloss from Urban Decay. This gloss is awesome — it is extra glossy, but not sticky at all, and the color payoff and staying power is great, especially for just a lipgloss. My favorite part about the new UD gloss is that it has beneficial moisturizing ingredients and it feels super smooth.

Urban Decay Naked Lipgloss ($20 for 0.13 oz.; beauty.com) is described as a “luxe gloss and a rich balm in one” formulated with good-for-your-skin ingredients like Hyaluronic Filling Spheres, vitamin E, avocado oil and shea butter to hydrate and condition lips, along with Rosehip seed oil that provides “an extra hit of vitamins, including vitamin A and vitamin C.”

Stila Magnificent Metals Foil Finish Eyeshadow in Metallic Lavender

And the last new product on the beauty market in my mini-haul that I’ve been meaning to try are these foil finish eyeshadows from Stila. I haven’t really used them to their full potential yet (just tried them out quickly so far), but I plan on doing a full review on them this week. I decided to buy two colors, the foil shadow version of Stila’s best-selling “Kitten,” as well as “Metallic Lavender,” so that I can mix them together, instead of just using one color alone or blended with powder shadows (which I intend to do either way).

Stila Magnificent Metals Foil Finish Eyeshadow ($32 for set of foil shadow, liquid primer and mixing tray; beauty.com) is described as a “cream-to-powder shadow with a multidimensional metallic finish.” This shadow can be built up for a variety of effects, ranging from a “light wash of shimmer to an opaque metallic finish.” It comes with a mini Stay All Day Liquid Eye Primer and a cute little mixing tray.

Dr. Brandt CC Glow With Signature Ruby Crystal CC Cream

This next product is also fairly new — Dr. Brandt’s CC Glow CC Cream. I have had severe dry skin this winter and I wanted to get a new cream that would provide moisture benefits while giving off a dewy-type glow, and this is definitely the perfect CC Cream for that. I absolutely love this product and it looks great alone, for light makeup days, and it also works great as a CC Cream primer underneath my foundation.

Dr. Brandt CC Glow With Signature Ruby Crystal ($39 for 1 oz.; beauty.com) is described as an “all-in-one color correcting and perfecting cream formulated with Ruby Crystal Complex and stabilized Vitamin C.” This CC Cream has eight anti-aging benefits: it illuminates, primes, brightens, hydrates, smoothes, evens skin tone, rejuvenates and provides SPF 30 protection for a “natural, flawless and youthful glow.”

Malin + Goetz Essential Kit

I absolutely fell in love with the Malin + Goetz Detox Face Mask that came in the January Pop Sugar Must Have box, and I wanted to try more products from this brand, so I figured this Essential Kit was the perfect place to start. I can’t get over how well the Malin + Goetz products work, and the brand is quickly climbing to the top of the list of my favorite skincare brands.

The Malin + Goetz Essential Kit ($30 for six different 1-oz. products; beauty.com) includes:

Beauty.com Daryl K. Sample Bag

And now for the sample bag! When I first received a sample bag with my Beauty.com purchase (back in November, I think) I was SHOCKED at how much stuff was in there. So many great products/products I have been meaning to try/products I never heard of in REAL sample sizes. I’m a firm believer that if I’m going to “sample” a product, then there better be enough product in the package for at least more than one use.

I absolutely hate those single-use sample packets, so I was happy to see that Beauty.com sent out yet another awesome sample bag with this most recent purchase, packed with 11(!)  sample products. I consider these sizes to be more “travel-sized” than sample-sized, especially the creams and lotions, and even hair products(!), that I can take with me wherever I go. I was also happy to see products with good-for-you ingredients and also some of my favorite brands.

I didn’t take the greatest photos of the actual samples, but I just wanted to give a general idea of what was in the bag. The Beauty.com Daryl K. Sample Bag included:

Julep Maven February 2014: The Dramatic Collection Review, Photos + Swatches

Julep Maven January 2014 Review, Swatches and Photos. Monthly Nail Polish Subscription Box. Photo copyright 2014 Sugarglow Blog: Makeup, skincare, hair products, reviews, subscription boxes, DIY, fashion and more. www.sugarglowbeauty.com.This month, Julep debuted “The Dramatic Collection,” a mix of Hollywood glamour and Valentine’s Day sexy, with brand-new red carpet-worthy nail colors, shimmery liquid (not cream, liquid) eye shadow in four sultry hues and one of the best black gel eyeliners (plus an eyeliner brush!) that I have ever used. Each Maven box style this month also contained the brand-new exclusive nail polish called “Love,” just in time for V-Day.

With each new month I become more and more obsessed with Julep and more and more impressed with their beauty items. Julep started out as a nail polish/nail care company and has been quickly growing into a bona fide beauty brand. There are few Julep beauty (non-nail) products that I didn’t love — most of them work so well (for me, at least), so I decided to get the Modern Beauty box this month, with a couple of nail polish add-ons.

There are x different style profiles to choose from each month, and then you can choose to add-on additional featured items that month at a discounted price.

Each month Julep debuts a themed collection that includes brand-new nail polish colors and a couple of new beauty products that are usually related in some way. This month’s beauty products were all about the eyes: the wonderful gel eyeliner and the perfect angled liner brush to apply it with, as well as the liquid shadows with a satin finish.

In addition to the beauty items (that came with the Modern Beauty box), I chose two add-on nail polishes and also received the pretty “Love” polish that came in every box.

Whoops … I thought i made the photo of this eyeliner pot bigger than I actually did … sorry about that! It looks super small now that I see it in the post. But anyway. I am so, so happy with this eyeliner and it has instantly become my favorite; well, maybe my second favorite because nothing can really beat out my tried-and-true decade-long attachment to the Chanel Stylo Yeux Waterproof liner. So, I’m going to say that the new Julep liner is my favorite gel eyeliner and it is absolutely amazing and I am so happy that Julep created it.

Julep Ink Gel Eyeliner (reg. $22/$17.60 Maven price for .15 oz.julep.com) is described as a creamy, jet-black eyeliner that’s “packed with encapsulated pigments that deliver intense lines with a silky-smooth, smudge-proof finish.” I cannot stress enough how amazing this liner is, especially for someone like me who has a very hard time finding an eyeliner that 1). goes on easily, 2). has an intense, vibrant color payoff, and 3). stays put all day long. This liner fits all three points of my eyeliner criteria perfectly.

Julep Ink Gel Eyeliner — swatched quickly, and therefore crooked …

This smooth-gliding gel liner contains soothing botanical extracts and it is enriched with “Power Cell Complex,” which is an “age-defying blend of rosehip seed oil, Malvaceae Lipid Extract and green coffee bean oil that promotes collagen production.” The gorgeous black color goes on so vibrantly with a very creamy consistency that doesn’t crack the way some liquid/gel liners do. I think that half the reason this eyeliner works so well is because of the angled liner brush that came with it, which makes applying and/or blending easyyyy as pie (I never ever use that term, but I have no idea how else to describe its awesomeness!).

Julep Angled Liner Brush review and photos. Julep Maven February 2014 Modern Beauty box. Julep Maven January 2014 The Dramatic Collection Review, Swatches and Photos. I honestly can’t decide which product I like better — Julep’s new gel eyeliner or the perfectly-angled brush to apply it with. Julep Angled Liner Brush (reg. $18/$14.40 Maven pricejulep.com) is a precision brush (it is extremelyyy precise) with angled synthetic bristles “designed to deposit color close to the lash line.” This is hands-down one of the best (if not THE best) angled eyeliner brushes I have ever used. I usually have to dot on extra bits of eyeliner to fill in close to the lash line and I honestly didn’t have to do that at all with this brush because it gets so close.

This brush has also truly mastered the art of soft pressure for a thin line/harder pressure for a thick line, which I can never really seem to do perfectly with any other brush. The thing I like the most about this brush is that it doesn’t blend the liner in so much that the liner loses its color vibrance (which is also thanks to the intense color of Julep’s gel liner). I haven’t really used this brush with any of my other liners yet, so I guess I really can’t make a well-rounded judgment just yet, but, for now, I can say that it works perfectly with Julep’s gel liner.

I wasn’t as thrilled about this liquid eyeshadow as I thought I would be, but I haven’t really used it much yet. So far I have only worn it alone, so I think I might like it a lot better when I blend it with a regular-finish eyeshadow.

Julep Eye Sheen Liquid Eyeshadow (reg. $14.40 for .15 oz.julep.com) is described as a “gorgeous liquid eyeshadow” that “glides on easily and sets to a satin finish that stays put all day.” It is a buildable and blendable formula enriched with Julep’s “proprietary Power Cell Complex,” an “age-defying blend of rosehip seed oil, Malvaceae Lipid Extract and green coffee bean oil that promotes collagen production.”

Julep Eye Sheen Liquid Eyeshadow in Dusty Taupe Shimmer

This liquid shadow formula comes in four shades and I received the “Dusty Taupe Shimmer” color. Like I said before, I found that this shadow didn’t blend as well as I wanted it to. I used it over an eyeshadow primer (which might have been a mistake) and it seemed like all the color fanned out to the edges of my eyelid and didn’t stay put in the center because of it’s liquid-y texture. I’m going to try it again without a primer and then also blended with a powder shadow and see how I like it.

For my first add-on product I chose this nail polish because I wanted to try out Julep’s Stardust Finish. Julep Nail Color in Cameron (reg. $14/$11.20 Maven pricejulep.com) is described as a “silver lilac stardust” and the stardust part is a matte glitter. This isn’t just a regular glitter polish, it’s more texture-y looking and if you apply a top coat over it then the polish kind of loses its effect (although you can still see the glitter and it’s still very pretty).

Julep Nail Color in Cameron (Stardust Finish)

I am in love with the Stardust Finish, which surprises me because I never really like any texture polishes I try (but this isn’t really a real “texture” — it’s kind of hard to explain unless you see it in person). The color is a true mix of silver and lilac and the whole polish is shimmery/glittery with pretty flecks of glitter throughout. It also has serious staying power, and has stayed put on my nails for about three days now without applying a top coat over it.

The next add-on I got was this color, “Kristen.” I’m actually not entirely sure why I chose this color — when the “Maven Window” was open for me to pick what I wanted in my February box I kind of rushed through it, so I think I might have actually picked this color when I wanted something else. I have a ton of turquoise-ish nail colors, but, either way, this one is a pretty addition.

Julep Nail Color in Kristen

Julep Nail Color in Kristen (reg. $14/$11.20 Maven pricejulep.com) is described as a “deep sea teal with silver microshimmer.” It’s definitely a very pretty teal color, and the microshimmer makes the shade a lot more sophisticated and work-friendly than a regular teal glitter polish. You could definitely get away with wearing this shade to the office; well, I would have no problem wearing it to the office, at least.

And the last polish in my February Maven box was this awesomely pretty limited-edition shade. I actually didn’t think I would like this color that much before using it and then I fell in love with it.

Julep Nail Color in Love (February Maven box exclusive shade) is a limited-edition nail polish that was exclusive to the Julep Maven February 2014 shipment. This polish came in every single box, so every Maven received one. It is a bunch of colors rolled into one that actually work very well together.

“Love” was released as a Valentine’s Day shade and it’s a shimmery light gold with a slight hint of purple (that you can see better in the light) and it has pretty red flecks throughout. This color is super unique, it’s not just gold and purple, it’s a super unique light gold and a super unique light lilac purple. This is definitely one of my favorite nail colors ever and I hope Julep releases it again soon so I can pick up a few more bottles.
