This month’s Ipsy Glam Bag theme was “Beauty Blast,” a “universe of brilliant beauties.” I have to say that even though the makeup bag might be a wee bit tacky, I am loving it anyway. I love the stars and galaxy stuff so I did a little dance as soon as I opened up my Ipsy package to see this bag 😀
I say this about almost all of the subscription boxes I receive, but really, Glossybox is one of my favorites and I am always looking forward to it each month. I didn’t think this month’s Glossybox was the best one ever, but it definitely wasn’t bad either.
Ipsy is a “personalized” monthly beauty subscription that sends out items based on your style profile (which you fill out upon first subscribing) and your reviews of the products that you receive each month. I think the review process is great and I always notice products that I like more and more after reviewing the previous month’s Glam Bag.
With that being said, I have been seriously slacking this summer and I haven’t reviewed any Glam Bags in months. SO … I was pleasantly surprised to open up such an awesome Glam Bag for September! I really like all of the products I received and I will definitely be putting them to good use.
Every month the Ipsy subscription is sent out along with a brand-new makeup bag to hold all of your new goodies. This month’s bag was a gold case that was a little longer than most of the other bags sent out in recent months, so it can easily hold lots of makeup items like eyeliner pencils, brushes and even small eyeshadow palettes. It also easily fits into my handbag, so that’s always a plus!
I really liked this matte lip crayon and I was especially happy that I received it in this very perfect nude color. I have soooo many different lip products, but I absolutely love trying new ones so I really never get bored of them.
tre’StiQue Lip Crayon ($28; trestique.com): The full-sized version of this product is actually two products in one — each crayon comes with one matte shade, plus a shiny “BB Lip Balm” shade that you can layer together. What I also like about this lip crayon is that it can act as your lip liner as well — this product makes it super easy to draw a line around your lips and then fill it in with either the matte or shiny shade (or both). This lip crayon is also Infused with Vitamin E and Monoi Tahiti Butter which provide moisturization and antioxidant benefits.
I now have a gigantic nail polish collection thanks to my monthly Julep subscription, so I’m really never that excited when I get new nail colors in other beauty boxes. I was, however, happy to see Sephora’s own Formula X nail brand in my September Glam Bag. This color is very perfect for the fall and it comes in a rather adorable little bottle (so it won’t take up too much room in my collection!).
Formula X Nail Color ($10.50 for 0.4 oz.; sephora.com): A three-free nail polish formula infused with “ShineXcel™” for “enhanced color and overall brilliance,” plus a custom brush design that’s engineered to “complement the polish’s highly pigmented formula with precise lacquer application.” I received the color “Ignite,” which is a wonderful autumn red-brown. It looks like this particular color is only available in an exclusive set of four Formula X shades that you can buy at Sephora for $16.
I was super excited to see this NYX eyeshadow palette in my September Glam Bag. I love NYX eyeshadows and this palette has two perfect shimmery browns plus an awesome dark brown/light black matte color to contour or line the lashes. I took a few photos yesterday of an eyeshadow look with this palette and I’m going to take a few more tomorrow and then post them to my Instagram. The colors also stayed on all night long — even through serious headbanging at the rock festival this weekend.
NYX Cosmetics Ipsy Eye Shadow Trio (nyxcosmetics.com): This eyeshadow trio was designed exclusively for Ipsy by NYX. They contain three complimenting eye colors that can be worn together or separately, each with a “silky texture for seamless application.”
ACURE Brightening Facial Scrub ($9.99 for 4 oz.; acureorganics.com): I haven’t really tried out this facial scrub yet, but I really like the fact that Ipsy sent out such a great deluxe-sized sample of this stuff, so I will definitely be getting a good amount of uses out of it. This scrub contains natural exfoliators plus organic chlorella growth factor and argan stem cells to stimulate new cell growth and repair. It is also formulated with madonna lily stem cells to help brighten skin. It is vegan, gluten- and cruelty-free.
Crown Brush Oval Concealer Brush ($2.98 for one brush; crownbrush.us): I am usually all set when it comes to brushes — I try to invest in really good ones for each type of makeup and makeup application. A concealer brush is actually the one brush that I don’t have a set favorite, so I’m going to try out this one and see how I like it. This concealer brush is made of 100% Flexible Japanese Torray Taklon Bristles (which are synthetic) and it can be used for application and blending of any type of concealer formula or for applying cream eyeshadows.
Subscription Box Breakdown:
I was very happy with my Ipsy Glam Bag this month. I love the NYX eyeshadow trio, the nude matte lip pencil and even the Formula X nail color, which, again, is absolutely perfect for the fall. I think the face scrub and concealer brush round out the Glam Bag very nicely and this was definitely one of the better Glam Bags I have received in recent months.
Pricing & Availability:
Ipsy is a monthly beauty subscription service that costs $10 per month, plus a small tax to a few states (here in New York my monthly Glam Bag comes to $11 and change). To subscribe click here, or head over to Ipsy.com for more information.
Birchbox was the first subscription box I ever subscribed to and I have been receiving Birchboxes for a few years now (I think about three years). It’s one of the cheapest subscription boxes at just $10 per month, so I really think that it’s worth it even if I don’t love every single product every single month. I do find a lot of great products and brands through Birchbox that I probably wouldn’t know about if I wasn’t a subscriber, so that’s what really stands out the most for me when it comes to this particular beauty subscription.
I was super excited about the Julep Maven collection for March and I couldn’t wait for the box to arrive! This month Julep debuted “The POP! Collection”, its first new collection for spring that included pretty new pastels with a “retro vibe,” Julep’s new “soft focus” semi-matte finish, a new hydrating lipstick formula and Julep’s newest Fluid Eye Glider eyeliner pen.
Julep is a customizable nail and beauty subscription so each month you can choose what goes into your box. There were three base products this month and then you can pick a number of other items to add-on to your box. I chose three add-ons this month and when you choose three or more you get a free gift!
I, like most beauty junkies out there, definitely have a huge Sephora obsession that I came to terms with long ago … Every time I see a new product I must have it, and every time I run out of a product that I use every day and go to order a new one I always end up buying a bunch of other stuff that I may or may not actually need.
So anyway, my latest Sephora haul is actually two purchases that I made back to back on Sephora.com over the last week. I decided to put everything into one post to make it easier … also one of the orders didn’t exactly look like a “haul” since it was only a few products, so I added them together to make it look like more of a “haul.” I’m going to review most of these products in individual posts but here is a little overview of the items I picked up … !
I love the middle of the month — when pretty much all of my subscription boxes arrive right around the same time. I’m also loving the pink/red/love/hearts/girly Valentine’s-themed boxes I’ve been seeing, so this month I’m a little more excited than usual for my subscription boxes to show up at my doorstep.
